Looking to get a bit lower in the front on my 36. Has a 4" drop currently and wanted pics and suggestions on getting a bit closer to the ground (probably around 2" more). Power is Merc flat head and bones are intact. I imagine a spring swap will do the job, but looking for opinions and suggestions WITH pics please. Fire away HAMBers.
Nice looking truck! I think if you do anything to the suspension to get it any lower in the front you will wind up with other problems. First you will not be able to turn the wheels without rubbing the fenders. The next problem will be that the top of the tire will be rubbing the underside of the fender. on the least bump. If you go much lower you need to remove fenders. Personally, I would raise the back to level it. or five it a slight forward rake and drive it.
Looks right to me now, too low will cause problems. I had a 50 Ford that I lowered and we went on a garage tour and I drug the mufflers going a short distance down a gravel road. Couldn't back my 60 T-Bird out of my driveway with a passenger or it would drag where the approach to the street starts. Low looks good but can cause drive ability problems.
Trent, Good looking truck. You should be able to make up a couple longer shackles to get it down a little more
It looks like you have to big of tire on the front to do much without risk of hitting and tearing the fenders. I would drop the front tire size Sent from my iPhone using H.A.M.B.
...and reverse the eyes! My bud in freshman year of high school had a '39 Ford fordor, lower than a nun's ----. When asked how he got it so low, his answer: "Dropped axle, heated spring, split wishbone, reversed eyes and shackles!" He wasn't lyin'...
I've been using VW tires on the front of mine for more than 20 years. No dropped axle or other modifications needed. I dont want it any lower
