Goodguys Nashville is in a couple of weeks so I’m planning on taking my woody weather permitting but it hasn’t been driven in 16 years so I have some work to do. I’ve been tinkering around with it for the last few months and found out that the water pumps were puking their guts out and it needs some maintenance parts replaced but shouldn’t take much to get it ready to drive up there. I already swapped out the ignition parts and carburetor and did get it started using a spare battery I had laying around so I know it runs……Sweet half the battle is over with but now I have to swap the pumps and not scratch the car or ding the radiator so this should be interesting to say the least.

This car has been a trailer queen since it was in the movie Walk the Line and the last time it was out of the garage was when it won the Dearborn award or the AACA Grand Nationals, but thanks to Squirrel and Bandit Billy’s encouragement I’m going to put it back on the road and enjoy the car!!

So here is the way it is sitting in the garage now and I will be posting more pictures and updates later today whenever I get it back on the ground running IMG_3120.jpeg

I would go ahead and pull the radiator, coolant will be out anyway.
Cheap moving blankets on the fenders and grille.

Very nice looking woody. That is what makes Goodguys enjoyable is all of the different types of vehicles and quality of cars that attend.

I already bought the new ones from Carpenter and painted them so since I’m not going for a 1000 point show car it doesn’t matter if they are correct for the motor. I took off a set of NOS belts with the correct font for the part number and the heater bypass hose that Dad picked up at Hershey with the correct part number and font. Hell I put the regular Champion plugs in it and not the ones that are blued from the factory (Dad got 2 points knocked off for one of them having a touch of discoloration one time and scored a 998 ) So this time we are putting reproduction parts back on it and driving the wheels off of her :D:D:D

I didn’t get as far as I wanted but I did end up pulling the radiator out and after getting into it I decided that I need to do some cleaning and touch up on the motor where the paint pealed off in a couple of spots. Plus I can get to the frame rails and lower inner fenders better now that everything is out of the way. It’s amazing how much dust and dirt can find its way on a car after sitting for 16 years. That and letting one just sit there not doing anything will kill it quicker than if it was still on the road. IMG_3121.jpeg IMG_3123.jpeg IMG_3122.jpeg

I got to finish putting it back together today after spending some time cleaning and detailing the engine bay. Needless to say it took longer than expected but now I can work on cleaning the interior while it’s raining this week. Hopefully this weekend I can fire it up set the carburetor and maybe put a few miles on it. image.jpg image.jpg
