ok, i haven't been on here in a while. I had to sell my 53 chevy because of money issues. But I am dying to get another project going. I would love to get a model A project going but all are so expensive. What is the best way to get this project started with a low budget. I am thinking maybe pick up a frame, then a body, then an engine, etc. Any suggestions are appreciated. Thanks.
I recently abandoned my search for a good '49-53 Olds and decided that I wanna build a overhead-powered tudor highboy. Basically, what I'm gonna do is start by building a ch***is out of 2x4 ala this thread (http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=87556) and then try to acquire front and rear axles. A lot of stuff you can make if you're handy with steel or know someone who is and the rest you can buy on the cheap by not being too picky about getting 'speed parts' and buying stuff at swaps from people who are picky. My one concession to speed parts is I want a dropped axle. If I actually get to the point where I'm ready for a body and can't find one, I'll slap a fibergl*** t-bucket body on it until I find the right tudor. There's prolly 200 reasons why this won't work as well as I'm thinking, but I know that not doing it definitely won't work...
