I figured every great endeavor needed a mascot so I thought the cookie could be a prototype for Speedster Man but then a traveling monk/Igor ate it.

    Electricity vs Brass

Got out the RootKill and battery acid and water, mixed it in a tub and dropped in the instrument panel. I started out with 6 volts but got impatient and upped it to 12 since the heater ran out of gas and the shop got cold. Lots of bubbles and frothy copper built up on the electrode (negative.) (I would say anode or cathode but I don't know one from the other.) The panel was positive. It was hard to see how much was eaten out but I kept taking the panel out and checking. After an hour I quit. I could have left it in a little more. I was going to paint the design with waterproof ink but after looking at it I'm thinking maybe it will be more subtle it I'll just leave it the way it is. (And easier to polish too.) What do you think? I also came across this stuff called Pebeco Porcelaine 150 China Paint that you use like a magic marker but you fire in the oven at 300 degrees. You can use it on china or metal. I bought a stick. $5.00 What the hell! I threw in a pic of the hood up just for fun. Well I had two pics (from the Galaxy S3) of the panel in the solution with the electrodes around it but they won't up load. I had trouble before if the .JPG is in lower case but that's not it. You'll have to imagine it.

The car looks very imposing with the hood on, and the brass turned out fantastic.

Wow, it looks fantastic. I couldn't quite picture it in my head, but seeing it all together brings in home. Great job.

  11. Looks good!

On the S3, when you go into Photos and select the picture, just click on the Share icon (looks like a less-than sign with dots) and e-mail it to you. You'll probably want to resize them since the S3 camera is really high resolution.

Sometimes those traveling monks give and sometimes they take. There's a life lesson there somewhere. I think...

  12. crazy? I have to read this from the beginning every time I want to add a post ... still worth the effort every time ..

I don t know for the S3, but if the pictures are stored in a Micro SD card, there are SD card readers with a USB interface.
It will have the same behaviour as a USB key for storage.
Don t forget to switch the phone off before removing the card !
It may be less "geeky" than the solutions Dimadee provides above.

Do you know which Linux system you use ? This could help.

Yes Jerry, you are crazy. Probably something you caught from a traveling monk. Do you live on a pilgrimage path or is there some other reason for all the traveling monks in your area. We never seem to have that many around here.

I am partial to the brass plate with no contrast, but that's me.

How did you apply the 'stencil' to the brass? Really nice design.

I have the power to extend my arm at will. It's an Xmen thing. I can extend other parts but that's for another forum.

Michael over at Mountain Country Signs next door to my shop is very patient with me. I give him a design and he cleans it up, makes a vinyl cutout and sticks it on the brass. There might be better systems but this one works for me. That one was very intricate.

    Electric

I just had time to day to start work on the light switch and half of that was finding the plastic bag with all the bits and pieces in it. Hey, but it's a start!

I have been following your build for quite a while, mostly in silence. I am truly impressed with your skills, and ability to find a way. I feel that it would be best for the speedster to gradually get acustomed to everyday driving. Might I offer to break it in for you here in sunny South Fla? No snow, ice, road salt, or that damn vine that you have that grows everywhere. Just slow drivers in the left lane.

I might drive it down to visit mom in Margate. Possibly we could find some retired Indy or Vanderbilt Cup drivers among the oldsters to tell us stories of how it used to be. Could I get some publicity? Maybe something in the Enquirer: Lunatic Drives 91 Year Old Monster Car 800 Miles to See Mother

I intend to race fully equipped. That way half way through the endurance race my riding mechanic can climb down and get us a couple of meat (YAK) pies out of the oven. :)

    Let's get wired!

Or wored as they say in these here parts. When I first moved to North GA 33 years ago I was intrigued that fire was pronounced "far". If "fire" was "far" then how did one say, "The barn is "far" away." "The barn is over yonder," was the reply. We'll go into "roach bug", "hose pipe" and "hind catcher" another day.

I got the light switch plate together which required tweaking the contacts and soldering and other stuff then I started on the instrument panel. That also required tweaking or maybe twerking if I knew exactly what that was. It would have been nice to have the panel all put together and then just install it but it's going to be like working on a 1968 Mercedes 230's heater controls were you have to reach your fingers way up inside there and do the impossible. All my wire (period, of course) and solder (period--none of that lead free crap) and tools (not so period) are ready and ready.

I have heard that the "dolphin" on those gauges is fairly easy to remove with a pencil eraser - never tried it myself.

  30. Don't you mean, "We might could go into 'roach bug', 'hose pipe' and 'hind catcher' some other day"
