A buddy of mine who is painting a model A is painting the inside of the rail with bed liner paint (http://www.herculiner.com/). It comes in black, grey and red.

Hard as a rock and will never rust out. You use a roller to put it on.

    Just an idea.

    OMG NNNOOOOOOOO!!!!!

Our friend is building a period car. Certain modern parts and materials are completely inappropriate. Just as you would not use radial tires, zip ties, plastic split loom or LED lights, modern coatings like bed liners and even base coat/clear coat paints do not belong on a project like this.

So many options in paint. And it's so expensive that you've got to make the right decision. I like that shiny, but not too shiny, no clear coat finish on the paint. In other news. I was going to denickel the radiator but I discovered yesterday that it's German silver. Nice, but I'm not sure it fits my vision. As I see it my choices are: Change the other trim to match the rad. Leave all the other trim brass. Paint the radiator the same color as the chassis or body. Or...

    Jerry,

Do not despair, I bet you could make it look intentional by mixing brass & a few other major german silver looking parts like the oil tank, exhaust termination, step plates & maybe windshield frame - these could all be stainless which, treated properly, looks very much like german silver. Various pieces could even be trimmed in brass.

Add lots of brass fasteners, door handles, hood latches,
lights, rad neck & cap plus very evident brass bolts holding the rad in place and a large brass script of the name or a number on the rad core.

I think it would give a little Jules Vern influence to the unit

After all conformity does not seem to be the underlying idea behind this creation!

I wouldn't worry about the radiator. Cars of the period seemed to mix finishes depending on use.

For chassis paint you could try Rustolium with a hardener, it would probably look like period paint; try the smallest can on something; you could even try mixing colors. NAPA carries hardeners by the way.

I'm glad i'm not the only person to come up with a rear facing seat. Only way i could get it to fit too.

    AMEN to that!

    As Jack said it.

Conformity doesn't apply to this kind of car. Big, bold and unique is what it should be.:D

    Jerry,

Here is one with a bit of brass & a bit of nickel.

I think it might be a Stutz??

Your rad is much more attractive though.

    Prep

I got the chassis set up on jack stands. To keep the floor free from paint I laid down a tarp. I've got to bring a fan to that warehouse it's really hot in there. After that I went back to my shop and worked on the inside of the hood. It'll take some time but I need to get all the sheet metal prepped for primer. Underslung? What are you thinking? :) As for the German Silver... The Seagrave is coming together one way or the other!

Steering wheels. At least two types, the one where spider is built into the wood wheel or ones where spider just screw onto rim from bottom. Unless you have to make one, you might check out eBay, or perhaps you can just find a rim if screw on will work.

    Comes in handy!

  15. surprised that some type of smaller pizza or calzone pan would not be a good fit for the steering wheel wrapped with the right type of cheese for grips... old thickcrust pizza dried and seasoned might work as well...

ooooh oooh i know a stack of "peel"s layed opposed layer by layer and cut out your wheel

add a chef's hat to the driving gear......

With a bread stick shifter and brake.

Not much to report. I painted the underside of the hood, then I worked on the chassis cleaning up some missed greasy spots and dirt clods. I also made a list of stuff needed for the final cleaning, scuffing and painting.

Boy Jerry, we won't complain if you take a day off. I'm afraid to start a forum of my car project as I might feel too pressured to do something each day.
(Mine) - Today's photo would be soldering on one wire terminal to temp sender. zzzzzzz
    Thanks for your commitment.

Good advice ccbb. I took the day off. Not really, but I have to generate some money so I'm putting a head gasket on a 2000 Focus. Or as Johann Krauss says on Hellboy 2--Fooc yous. Why would Ford build a car called a Fooc yous? Maybe the same reason they built the Probe. Yes, I got rear ended by a Probe once. I wanted to show you a picture of my home made head resurfacer but left my camera at the shop. Tomorrow.

    Head resurfacing.

I was too lazy to take the Focus head apart so I whipped up a home made head resurfacer. Only a few thou to remove I told myself. Do you know how many strokes it takes to remove a few thou? Thousands! I should have taken the head apart. My son came to work with me and built a bionic hand out of a latex glove, safety wire and electrical tape. I think I'm going to let him paint the speedster.

    Now you're dating yourself.

Again no work on the Seagrave. But I did find this nice Alfa in my son's room. I think it's the perfect color. Not sure how it'll show up on the screen but it's a deep red-almost ox blood but not quite. I'm taking it to the auto color store.

    Where's Jerry?

Kid, kids, kids! Had to take kids to camp. Had to watch kids. Had an anniversary (23) Watched more kids. Had to fix a Focus. I mean Fooc yous. Tomorrow I work on Seagrave. My sanity depends on it.
