    Kit Car

I brought the wheels and pedals and linkage and gas tank and wood platform and all manner of stuff over to my other shop--a vacant warehouse that I cannot seem to rent--for assembly. This should happen next week. I'm still working on the shifter/brake assembly. I wiped the first of several coats of bondo on it today. You all probably forgot what the chassis/engine looked like so here's some pictures with the parts spread around it.

    Space and Time

Here's a little interlude for you guys. In explanation, I drove to a car show, but there was nothing of interest there--except for my REO--so I didn't video anything. When I got back we made this little film. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HZJ869n5lIo

  5. Thanks for the ride! :D Looks like a nice day for a spin thru the hills. Must have been a little humid out though. A couple minutes into the video it looked like your goggles fogged up on you,

Instead of being a one man band, I'd say you were a one man car show!

The moisture was from the tears of joy I get when ever I drive to old REO.

    This is really exciting!

Restoring an old car is really just two things: Cleaning and Painting. Well, then there's also straightening. Okay, three things: Cleaning, painting, straightening--and also rebuilding. Four things! Cleaning, painting, straightening and rebuilding. Not to mention, finding lost parts. Finding lost parts? Damn it, I told you not to mentions lost parts!

Well, I can tell you filling in rust pits on brake and shifter handles can drive you a bit crazy. You might end up talking to yourself. The nice thing is that because these are cast parts you can leave a few pits. if you don't, they come out too perfect and nobody ever accused me of making a part too perfect.

    Jerry,

That is a very nice car! Enjoyed the trip. I Know what you mean about the show, I once went to one, and my daily was older than anything there.

This is a bit late, but I believe you wrap the leather while it's wet, not wet it afterwords, like a banjo head.

    Lefty?

Who said I was left handed? I'm not left handed. Well, except for my most intimate functions. But otherwise I'm strictly a righty.

I spent yesterday forming and pouring a driveway to keep a good tenant happy. They're hard to find these days so I try to please. Today I filled imperfections and sanded them smooth. I wanted to prime but ran out of time. Maybe tomorrow I'll go on a priming marathon.

    Poop

Today I had to change out a septic pump and afterward pick up my son from an 11 mile hike on the Appalachian Trail--cool stuff when you're 11. I only stopped by my shop for an instant to sand on one of the wheel covers. I sanded it down with some #600 paper then buffed it a little. I think I need some different buffing compound as it came out dark. As I recall you buff aluminum with a white compound.

That thing is a trip. Jerry, did I see a leather helmet and goggles in your earlier video?

No. Not lederhosen. Rather a WWI gas mask and a live brown bear (Ursus arctos).

Those goggles are some I found in an antique shop or maybe at Hershey. I think they're really safety goggles but what the hey, they're funky and that's what counts!

I've been wrapped up fixing poop pumps and stopped up vent stacks and putting up for rent signs. I lost 2 good tenants last week and I've got to fill those buildings! Even so, I should show some progress tomorrow.
