  1. Awesome as always Jerry!

Guess I'll go against the crowd on the color though- if you're going for a Teens-20's style look, then you want black lettering. I can't think of any/many companies that used anything other than black in lettering until the 30's- seemed to be more of an art deco thing.

Happy to be proven wrong, but just my $.02 :)

I also think black would look better, but either way, if you don't like the paint it would be easy enough to remove. I'm having visions of the intake manifold you etched with acid. This thing looks killer!

Rolls used red lettering till Sir Henry Royce died in '33. Then went to black. Really easy way to figure when a Roller was built.

I like that idea. Maybe the same color as a the pinstiping or trim. But what color is the counter to red?

Yeah, it would probably look horrible, but it is the counter color.

I think I'd go for red, but a different shade than the body.

I could see the 2 concentric circles in deep red & the lettering & the star in white looking quite upscale for the period.

Jerry, could you post a picture of a machined cap for us?

  13. well.... green ????

maybe a different colors so you remember which corner it goes to..

  14. Actually, when it comes to light, cyan is the opposite of red.

same color as the engine block.

  18. My first choice for an opposite of red or pin stripe would be a Cream white color, or light gray

You know, bondo would be real easy to squeeze into the letters on the hubcaps and wipe off the excess. Maybe I can tint some glazing putty.

or just run it through the polisher and leave the polishing goo left overs in the crevices.

    Ready for my closeup.

I played around with the closeups. I think it needs a more diffuse flash--possibly a better photographer. Grey or vermilion or burgandy. Tomorrow I'm back polishing discs.

FWIW...for closeup/macro pictures, I've found that it helps to hold a piece of white paper (like from your computer printer) just in front of the flash. That diffuses it enough to get a clear picture that's not washed out.

    Wheel Discs

I spent the day polishing discs. I need to add some little strips on the outer rim inside to help align the discs on the rim. Otherwise they're pretty much done. I like the grey idea too. But what I want to know is when did grey replace gray or vice versa?

    Jerry,

    Grey is the U.K. spelling.

I looked at some 1920s paint combinations, with red, the contrasting colors were: turquoise, gold, black, and other shades of red.

Diffusing the flash will also prevent "red eye" in photos, if the flash can tilt, rotating it 45` up works well.

  30. is that hub the only one with that spelling
