    More holes and threads too

I drilled more holes and tapped them too. Then I mounted the apron and tweaked and filed. I think I'm done with the left side for a while. I did stick a piece of fender welt in there just to see what it looked like. On to the right side!

  2. You sure he's frae Scotland? Sounds more like Wullie frae The Simpsons.

Either way, its a fascinating build, and nice to see a build without a parts catalogue being used. ;)

Haha, a little artistic license. Neil's from Kirriemuir. Grew up at Balintore Castle. He's on my right at the annual Burn's supper. I'm reading Tae a Louse with a really bad Scottish accent.

I never could tell my left from my right. Or tell time either.

    Banging around the shop.

I cut out the right side rear apron (or was it the left--no matter.) The I bent up a 1/4" rod to that conformed to the other side--only the mirror image. With both pieces I clamped and banged until I had something. Today I'll bang some more. I've about had it with sheet metal. News Flash!! I've decided to sell my shop, take the proceeds and build a bigger one up at Yonah Station. This is based on the fact that there's too much beeping and flooding and earth moving going on around my old shop. It's too small too. And I've got no where to put the speedster when it's done and with this bypass and shopping center going in next door maybe someone will give me enough to make a profit on the place. So if anyone wants to buy the birthplace of the Giant Seagrave Speedster--I meant to say--the Historic Birthplace of the Historic Seagrave Giant Speedster--let me know.

  6. I am willing to donate one dollar and seven cents to the save the birthplace of the giant seagrave speedster...or future name "that dang nuisance shack over there"

We will keep this money in a mostly empty unmarked margerine container ,under my own workbench until all monies donated reach a level of percieved security risk ($6.00)
Our part of this funding will be dedicated to the preservation and initial lobbying needed for this tourist attraction to be listed in the hysterical state records and for tour guide wages .. Until self generated profits take over.

Save the dang G.S.S birth place now!
SAVE YER MONEY AND HELP OUR WORTHY CAUSE..

  7. Jerry, I hope you were using protection while doing all of that banging.........ear plugs that is!

  8. Preserving such a historical sight should be a priority for the county government. I can give you the 78 cents in my left pocket right away that will help make the right-thinking goal of preserving it complete. And if the HBotHSGS is somehow plowed under in the name of progress and Yet Another Starbucks, then what is left is the memory of an artist who deserves a hearty "right on!" to continue to inspire him in his righteous endeavour without being left behind ourselves.

My personal personal security risk level is $4.50, the price of a Sammy Smith Oatmeal Stout...

    Progress

More tenant stuff going on so speedster time is limited. Also I forgot my camera so you'll have to look at these crappy cell phone pics. I am closing on on the end of sheet metal work. Just the top of the apron left to fit to the rear fender and I can move on to paint prep. Yay!! Thanks for all the fund raising. I can see us topping 9 bucks by fall. Cool!

The historic Jerry Speedster recognition plaque administrative costs are currently running about $1500 a week and we need, of course, to hire additional personnel to handle all the donations.

  14. $1500? Wow, anti-beeping earplugs and Left-Right (or, as I prefer to call it, Hay Foot-Straw Foot) lessons are expensive around Yonah Station.

    OOps!

My buddy Gene came by. He's a walking encyclopedia of automotive and architectural knowledge. He also owns several really cool bikes and among them is this Chinese BMW copy thing called a Chang Jiang or what ever spelling you choose to use after you translate the name from hieroglyphics. I want to steal the bike from him but I'm afraid it's not fast enough for a proper getaway.

After I was making the final fit of the rear apron I realized I screwed up the curve on the rear were it meets the fender. Well, no one is perfect except our wives and thankfully they don't choose to do metal work or they would show us all up. I added a little piece of metal and made a botch of the joint but Mr Bondo promised me he'll make everything right. (That last picture is the right side, not my weld) Thank you Mr. Bondo for just being there when we need you.

    Jerry

ps. I'm looking for people to head up the donation committee, the website committee and the committee to book dates and locations for my national speaking tour--I only fly first class--the speedster will arrive ahead of me by air freight.

  19. If you build a speedster around that motor, be sure to include a trailer hitch for a fuel tank trailer........

Man, those are big cars....just can't get over that. Don't think I've seen this roadster before...most of the survivors I know of are touring cars, any more info on this car?

Ja, today das pond, tomorrow ....Bwa, ha, ha, ha!! Day-Yum Jerry, I'm so proud to be a tiny cog, ( loose ball bearing?) in the gear box!! I'm dropping the 38 cents into a Fed-Ex Over-nite Super-Dooper Pooper Scooper, equipped envelope!! Should be there in about 13 minutes!! BUT, my main point; MAN OH MAN, are you lucky, I just happen to have in my grimy little hand a class "A" driver's license!! With the multi-trailer endorsement!! In other words Bucko, we'll hook up three in a row and GOOOOOO!! Wife and the brats in one, car in another, dancing girls...... P. S., just looked at that Hall-Scott engine, that would be cool, parts MIGHT be a LEEEEETLE pricey, but man the historical value!! We'll pick it up after we make our Left-Coast swing!! Third trailer; dancing girls and P.T. boat motors!! ; )

I don't know much about it, aside from what my friend Dave (who's building it for a client) told us during our visit. The frame was found on an Amish farm, lengthened 10 ft and had been used as a hay wagon before being abandoned outside for about 50 years. The engine was found in CA in an old wood race boat, and through some twist of fate or luck, turned out to be the original engine for the chassis. The trans was a NOS piece stashed or forgotten in an Oldsmobile warehouse in Lansing MI. The planned completion is for Pebble Beach. Somebody in Battle Creek MI made, from brass sheet, the headlights and the other lamps (not on the car). It's stunning.

I asked if the car was a phaeton originally, he said it was originally bodied this way, with the mother in law seats out back of the rear axle. He (Dave) has built other cars for the owner, including Olds Limiteds. Incredible. I though Jerry would like to see the pics!

Cool as heck! If I'm not mistaken....this would be the only Olds Limited Mother-in-law roadster in existence.

What are the odds of the original engine still being around for this....and appearantly Oldsmobile still carries parts for these :D

Reminds me of a story I read about a 1910 Knox that had been cut up into a farm tractor. All the parts (brass lamps included) that were removed...were thrown in the scrap pile. When the guy bought the car\tractor, he asked about the parts that had been removed.....The owner just pointed at the scrap pile.

The new owner dug in the pile for 2 weeks and reclaimed the entire car.

What a car!! I love those Olds Autocrats too. That's where I got the idea for two running boards--even if I didn't put two on the speedster, you still have to step up twice to get into the cockpit. Back then only the rich could ride around in a monster car and look down on the little people. Today anyone can buy a Escalade, a Navigator or a Hummer and look down on his fellow man. That's progress. God Bless America!!

    Capitalism and a paint job

I've been dreading painting the speedster. Bodywork and paint are not my thing. I want someone else to paint it but, alas, no money. Then I saw an ad on Craigslist: 2004 Aveo wrecked--right here in town! An idea began to hatch in my mind. I bought the car for $700.00 The title was clean. Cool! Next I called the junk yards and found all the parts I needed in RED for $600.00. I ordered 2 new headlights and radiator on the interweb for $250.00. Then I took the car to the frame shop--$300?. IF all goes well I might be able to clear $1500.00 on the car and maybe I can get the speedster painted for that. I've already got the paint. So with fingers crossed I started stripping things out to get the sheet metal ready. I worked feverishly. I was starving. Then suddenly, Steve, an old college friend, appeared at my shop with a bag of bagels. It was a sign things were going to work out. Hey, where can I find lox in this town? Or maybe a cream soda? What is lox anyway? Listen to me!! Can you imagine? The speedster painted!! Am I that close?

  29. Publicity reports that it needs $6.82 for the press release contact list. Unfortunately the HBotHSGS has absorbed all available funds to date. Too much cream cheese and Big Red soda, I guess.

  30. Thinly sliced smoked salmon. Go gitcha some! Them boys is delicious, but kinda spendy. Maybe after you flip the Aveo? :D
