Enjoy it! I find that a lot of research is better than a quick jump, so be carefull with that beauty and ask questions here!
love it man nice car no just spend every free moment you have on getting her running and give your grandfather another ride in her
congrats...beautiful old steel. the way she sits is probably the way she should stay, because it's grandpa's and that is a great memory. all the talk is about stopping...does she run at present, and or when was the last time she was run? at least drain the tank in case of old fuel/varnish or condensation, disconnect the fuel line at both ends and genlty blow it out, and dump any other fuel you can find, fuel pump, carb bowl, fuel filter. if she doen't have an inline fuel filter already, a temporary one might not be a bad idea just incase you pump a bunch of junk towards the carb. change the oil, and prime the oil system so you have lube all the way up if she has been sitting a while. hope you and gramps enjoy many miles together
As far as I'm concerned there is NOTHING better than getting something personal from your grandpa. My grandfather meant the world to me, taught me how to take things apart and put them back together again.. I followed him like his shadow when I was young. When he passed away my grandmother took me aside and gave me his .30/.30 deer rifle. She said he wanted me to have it and never made it public as all of his grandsons wanted it. Get it drivable (safe) take him for a ride if your able and cherish it forever. Frank
If you do nothing else, make a scarp book with pictures, the note, a penny , even a condom wrapper if there is one. When you take Gramps for his ride give him the book with all the memories and pictures you take. End the book with a page in the very back of the book with a note to say how important he is in your life. He will cherish this little bit of kindness and respect forever. I just wish I would have done that for my Granpa who was very important to me( he could do nothing wrong in my eyes). I just thought I would share this with you because I hope my Grand kids(6 of them) will think of me as we all have thought of our special person in our lives Grampy silversink
Anybody else who might have come along and bought that car can never have the connection you do, family heritage and that's what makes that car one of the best cars you'll ever own! Make it safe and do what you have to do to make it fun to drive, then drive it !! Good luck.
