  1. What the hell is going on here? Been a couple weeks since I have checked the board, but man, why bother? Is there anybody building a car that is, lets say, on the edge? Must everybody follow one another or replicate what has been.....

Sure I like the flatties and have plenty banger parts here at the house, but can we get some hp here. Old school is old school, but, is that were hot rodding ends at this board?
I think hot rodding should be a forward progress thing, with memories of the past. Build them our old school style, but make them smoke the tires all the way up the g****vine.

I have never seen such a "stretch" of cars being built cause there "old school". Dangerous mateing and risky drivability 'cause a look must be acheived. No thanks.

If you build your car a way to suit yourself, such as seldomsene, cool, drive it and have fun, but if you want a hot rod, go for broke.

Hot rodding was based on the need for speed, now it seems to be the need to fit in..............

Oh yeah,, flatties rule.........ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha !!!!!!!!

I don't understand this post. It just looks like a thinly disguised "what's a traditional hot rod?" post to me. I'm supposed to feel bad because I'm building a flathead powered car? Or maybe I missed the point entirely?

I was pretty stoked to see you start building that banger powered hot rod with the 2x3 frame a couple of years ago...at least I'm pretty sure that was you. I saw a picture of the frame finished with the motor mounted and then it just faded away. I want to see more of that...or why should I even bother to come back?

I agree to a point. That point being, all this is about is building cars that bring us smiles when we turn the key and step on the go pedal. That's what everyone is doing, except of course honda civic tuners that is. And while you are correct, the only way this part of the world (kustoms and rods) will survive is by a continual pushing of the creative envelope, it will still need people to build rods in the true old school ways and in the true old school fashions least they be lost to a fading memory forever... For me, i want to many cars to count. And at least one will be a traditional www rat rod.

I'm with rogue... A lot of people here will tell you what you SHOULD build...

Just like the tatted rockerbilly with cuffed jeans who once came up to me at Bob's and told me what I NEEDED to do with my copper truck...

I cut him off mid sentance, told him I NEEDED to keep it well maintained and drive the **** out of it.

The unfortunate reality is that few on here are a Fritz or a Moriarty who can build the OUT THERE cool stuff, and most of us need a lot of coaching, so we get schooled on the "standard" recipes. WHICH, I am NOT knocking, I'm grateful for it. True innovation is difficult, takes a ton of talant, and years of prior experience to pull off. I'm not talking about small unique details, but more of the big overall picture of the whole car.

Take plowboy's space truck for example... No one would say a bad thing about it NOW, but I think I recall him getting some unwarranted **** for the idea initially. Which, thank god, he disregarded and flushed, and went forward with his vision.

I guess ya gotta have enough of the right pieces in front of you, AND have the lightbulb click on, all at the same time.

All that being said, I'd be as happy as a pig in **** with a fibergl*** fad T with a chevy 350 up front! [IMG]

Here is some forward progression for you . I'll bet it would whoop the *** of ANY hopped up model A regardless of what type of HP it was pulling . Fast is fast , and if you want to go REALLY fast , ****ing around with 70 year old cars is not the way to do it . Anything else is copying the past and regurgitating up new ways to do the same old thing . Look cool trying to go fast in a slow car .

I dont care actually one way or another , I like big fat slow cars , so dont mind me [IMG]

Go for it dude. And fill us all in on the build up when you are finished.

I can't speak for anyone but myself, but the last reason I wanted an old vehicle was to fit in. The only thing I need to fit into is my pants, and that gets harder and harder each day....

I agree to some extent with this comment. Unsafe builds are stupid imo, but apparently my definition of "safe" and someone else's are most likely different. However, I doubt anyone intentionally sets out to build un-safe cars. It may just be that some don't know how or why to build a safe car.

Not that I am a lemming by any means, but I like traditional styled hot rods and customs. That's why I am here.

Kind of seems that way doesn't it?

I agree. Mainly because the only thing I can have of this era vehicle is memories...see, I ain't old enough to know it all first hand. I am pretty much new to this vintage tin, and I'm not affraid to admit that I do not know a whole hell of a lot about this stuff. Just trying to learn as I go with a bit of help from the generous people that are here. And I believe that there are many more members here that are in the same situation as me.
However, I doubt there is anyone making you stay here. This place, like any other source of media, can be easily ignored if one does not care for the topics of conversation. If I don't like whats on t.v. I turn it off...If I don't like whats on the radio I listen to a CD...If I don't like what is being covered in a magazine I let my subscription run out...If I don't like what is going on here I stay away for awhile.

I'm not trying to be a **** or start anything...but you did ask a question.

    Thank you, please drive through...

Let me tell you what I think. I am on this board because I like all cars. I like resto's, ratty rods, race cars, toy cars, monster cars, and VW's with young blond chickies inside.
I could give a damn less if you like my car. I like my car.I don't build them to any particular year, style or budget.
I won't bad mouth your car just like I won't bad mouth your wife.We can't all be the same , If I wanted that I'd play Golf.
Some of the most memorable moments have come at odd times in odd vehicles. I'm still looking for that ride in someones side car,And a hot air ballon would be great also.
I may put a 4 cyl, or a monster HP. engine in my A, what ever strikes me at the time I need it.

I do however appreciate what I learn on here and the way every one seems to help me with my questions.

Lets argue about important things ,like halter tops,BBQ,the price of Snickers bars or whatever.

    Cheers.

    rogue,

    what was your point?

you want to see someone else building something different and fast so you can feel at home here with your flatheads? [IMG]

    I'm working on two cars,

one semi trad old school gow job that you can actually see daylight under,

that will be a fun little car, blasting down a dusty road or flying down the freeway.

the other is a semi serious custom rod with enough grunt to crack a smile a mile wide,

should get to at least bark at the big dogs if not run with them.

    ......

are you part of the sollution? or part of the problem? [IMG]

post your cutting edge pictures here!

I have'nt been on this board very long, but I thought it was a board where all cars and car builders got together.
I know that I have learned a lot from this place and I'm not about to leave(unless someone throws me off, and then I'll go out fighting).
I do not agree with everyone and I don't think everybody does.
If everyone built the same thing, there would be no need for this place.
I have two v-8's and two six bangers and like all of them the same.
Just my 2 cents worth if anybody cares.

Oh and the best halter tops are the ones that leave a little gap to give you a free side shot. So there. [IMG]

I'm stuck in the middle right now. I'm driving the Chevelle and it'll peg the speedometer at less than half throttle. At the same time I'm building a Model A coupe with a flatty. Speed is relative. Getting more out of a flatty is more fun right now. When I get that on the road, I'll probably put a built 572 in the Chevelle. [IMG]

People are building cars right now that they've been planning for some time...

I'll be building a flathead car next that will be fast for a flathead but I'm already thinking about the next car which will have considerably more power.

It's cyclical... People don't just **** out cars when the next whim hits them.

Although if you wouldn't just check in once in a while you'd see C9's roadster that will probably be plenty fast. And the Hokey *** g***ers that people are building for the drags, etc...

So show us what's up with the banger car. My f150 could smoke it but I'd still like to see what's up. [IMG]

Rogue put a Chevy in the all steel A and the current build has a Hemi in it so what's all this stuff about Flatheads?
He was knocking them (as being the "only true hotrod engine") too.

    Hey Rouge,
Ya trying to get someone up and bothered enough to give you some "traditional hot rod" compe***ion, or at least company, at the GNRS next year or what? [IMG] [IMG] [IMG]

  29. Boy, is this the best. SO- WHAT, get lost. That name alone makes me laugh. It's so-cal.

Ryan has a great board here, more than half the members are good friends of mine, don't get me wrong. I think Stobe nailed it. The race cars of today are yesterdays hot rods even at your local dirt track. Why can't we build our cars the same way but to look "vintage"? Personally typing, when I go to a show, I look for ideas, but, the ones comming to the table can't be mentioned here. Cool. Now, why does it take 1/2 a million to see these ideas??

Simply put, I think most hamb guys have some great ideas, I've seen them first hand, but they are not here on the board. Why? ****ing lets see it, bring it, pull the hot rod card out big................... please....
