If it was mine and I was not afraid to step out of traditional. I would stick with the bigger diameter wheels. I think they look good on 59 wagons..

Halibrand or Real Rodders in the big window style are the cats meow.. I think they go best on almost any care. go with 15x8 reverse (they look like 10's) and 15x6 front.. lots of tires..

These particular big wheels rub up front... so they have to go. I want to pull them off while they still have the nubs on the tires. PLUS... I live on a mile of dirt road. They are beating the car to death, so I'm going back to a tire with some sidewall.

My biggest issue on the Hali's or Real wheels..they cost too dang much. I'm already loosing my butt on the big wheels, so I want to stay under $200 per wheel for the replacements.
    Thanks for the input!!

Chrome reverse. All those other new/old styled wheels look like the 'in crowd' at the national events. If that is the intent, run them. But if real retro is what you seek, they have to fit a theme. Dig? Now the bit about Cragars being 'too '70s' is true, in the sense they were on just about everything at their height of popularity. LOTS of muscle cars ran them, remember? The shade of red and your style of flames also play heavy into the theme.

Just as Slammed said.. they were on EVERYTHING in the 70's. I wasn't old enough to remember the styles of the actual 60's... but I was a "car kid" in the 70's for sure.

I dig.. :p but I don't LIKE the chrome reverse wheels at all. If I had the cash... I'de just do real Halibrand Sprints on the car. I like them and they fit the idea of what I was thinking. My second thought was that if I couldn't put the Halibrands on... maybe the gray centered kidney bean copy would still give me the hotrod look without making it look like I wish I had the real thing...if that makes any sense. I'm not 100% sure of "the look" I'm going for... I'm kinda thinking Bonneville or National drag racing event tow/push car from the 50's/60's maybe. I know that's a weird reference to some.. but that's about the only way to wagon fits into the hotrod circles. It's certainly no racecar.
    Am I making sense? :D

There's really only a few wheels I'de do on the car..and they are pretty much all the ones shown in this thread.

No... not feeling those either. Again..just too many of them in the 70's..must have jaded me ;).

I've REALLY tried hard to like the Radir's, looked at a ton of pics on cars but I'm not feeling them either.

Your '59 Chevy Wgn is screaming for chrome five spoke wheels. If you are looking to make a statement, how about these Keystone Classics by Cragar. Anyway, you are on the right track thinking five spoke with the lower wheel in your pix.

You can't go wrong with either wheel, although, I do prefer the saltlake version, myself. Ditto on the NO WHITEWALLS! Really nice wagon!

Bitch'n wagon; it looks good with both of the wheels shown, and will look even better with the any of the wheels proposed.

I like the Cragars better than the Rockets, although I think I would do without the knockoff caps. Saves some money there, besides. As mentioned above, shiny wheels might be a better choice for this car. Let us see it when you get it lashed together.

Nice wagon. Neither of the wheels that you showed us pictures of would make it look like and older hot rod. A perfect choice for an early 60's look (if that's what you want) would be chrome rims with narrow white walls or steel wheels painted the same as the body with narrow white walls and spiders or baby moons. Look through some 60's Car Crafts, etc. Black wheels with black walls would really make that car look drab, but that's the in thing.

  13. Super Nice wagon, I have a set of 17" Cragar SS on a Non HAMB friendly 1991 Olds Custom Cruiser wagon. I like the look but the quality of the new cragars Chrome is Pitiful to say the least! Wish I had gone with the Torque thrust, Better looking wheel.

That's what I thought when I read the first line in your post. Chrome reverse with big and littles with baby moon or smooth small caps with a Bowtie on them. I had chrome reverse wheels on my 59 El Camino many moons ago and always liked the look. I think I had black walls and will have to dig out an old photo to make sure.

Well... I just discovered something that may make up my mind. The first pic I posted of the Cragar "halibrand" knockoff is of the 17" wheel. The holes are bigger on that wheel than the 15". The size of the holes on the pictured 17 were one of the things I didn't like about it. I like the smaller holes on the real Halibrand. I stumbled across another pic that must be of the 15" and I think it looks better. ALOT like the original Halibrand.

Here's the car with the Cragar Street Pro's. (crappy cell phone pic) Went with a 15x6 front and 15x8 rear. Wanted the 15x10, but the offset wasn't correct.
I like it much better than the Weld Wheels that had been on it. :D
