GizzleHopper Report

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by Beep, Jan 26, 2012.

  1. A close call on the GH.

I had been thinking for months that I should pull the GH's engine down for looksee. She has been running now for 3/1/2 years with zero issues. Still had good oil pressure etc, but compression was down a littl on some holes. I finally got the energy to pull it down

    Damn glad I did too.

Two cylinders were badly scratched. Not deep, but definetly not good. 4 rods bearing were showning extensive stress (wear) and I had one scuffed piston. The crank is good, but slightly blackened on one journal. I caught it just in time. All is repairable rather quickly and inexpensively.

All the top rings were begining to crumble at the edges. Damn that 95% nitro is hard on stuff ain't it.

She is going back together with a new set of total seal gapless steel rings, bearings and a new valve job. We will be at the Dallas Autorama in February for sure

Sounds like a just in time tear down. No parts donated to the God of Speed, I hope your luck continues.

Just 3 1/2 years on Nitro ? Seen it run a many of times in Houston and Austin. Amazes me to how they can survive a single cackle run much less the drags.

Glad it worked out. 3 years ago you were running in Houston and at shutdown, the left breather had fire coming out of it. I am like....That is fuel retension !

See ya in Sealy in March.

This is strictly a cacklefest car right? Does it ever make p***es or do burnouts?

3 1/2 years on 95% is absolutely F'n amazing, must have been built right in the first place!

Glad you caught the problems before you had to pick pieces up off the track. I know alot of us would love to see pics of the motor tore down if you get a chance to snap and post a few.
