Got all my parts in , all the machine work done and started putting her back together again last night . She will be fresh when done . New cam bearings rod & main bearings, total seal gapless rings, valve job, blower overhaul and more. Pictures will follow tonight . She wil lbe a happy little Gizzle Hopper............................
Love that hot rod, you have entertained us at the H.A.M.B drags so many times. I am sure it will like its heart surgery. Rock on Gizzlehopper. What is it, about as cool a drag car that has ever breathed fire!! ~sololobo~
Hey Brian lets get the Gizzlehopper breathing before she shows up at Sealy, TX for our Second Ever, Nostalgic Drags and Rod Run, on March 3rd. The chants are beginning to build, "Fire Up The Gizzle Hopper"
I posted these on another thread with same ***le, but it went away for some reason. Here they are again
No. No full runs. The engine is old, is cast iron block, crank & heads with medium strength pistons. The blower is a stock case and rotters. on 95% your begging for a major fire. Been there back in the day, done that, got the scars. Won't let that happen to her. Not on my watch. She would do it though and If I'm not looking real close she might. She will do 200 to 300 foot burn outs though pn a low dose. That doesn't stress those old parts too much
Just wondering... sure wouldn't put anyone in danger... but a good burnout would be fun for her as well as the rest of the crowd!
Never seen a MEL with the intake off, those ports look huge. Could almost stuff a deck of cards in there. Love the Giz
Blacktobudah: Those ports are huge. Especially for 1958. When we raced her in 1961, we had her ported by Mondello (25% more flow) and we have 21/8" intakes and 2" exhaust. Monster for the time, but they had to be big to feed 508 CI
