It's a challenge not to transfer your feelings and life experiences on to others.
    One more lesson to learn.

Some on here don't believe in someone buying and then selling at a profit for whatever reason. They want someone else to spend the time and money to search and find the the part/car then turn around and sell it to them for the same price. The last 10 years or better the entitled crowd has appeared here also

I think if you buy it, you'll come out upside down.

hey Russ, did you see my auctions, the stuff from our house, and from my shop? they end in a few hours, over 1000 lots. Tumbleweed is doing them, online, with on site previews.

See how mine went, maybe you could do something similar...and the car stuff seems to be getting some action, too, although it's kind of strange what gets bids and what doesn't.

Meanwhile, back to the rules...this post is probably straying from them! but I think we got the subject sorted out pretty well.

  5. Say we're talking about inheriting your grandfathers small, well loved house, instead.
The area has grown up around it.
You have no desire to live there..not enough room, too far from work, etc.
Wouldn't you consult with a realtor, and have a market analysis done on the house?.. you wouldn't want to leave thousands of dollars on the table, right?
It's not being disrespectful, or unappreciative..it's simply being practical.
If a "non-car person" inherits a car..it could well mean yet, another car..and they already have the car/s they need, that they are willing to insure and upkeep.
"Grandfather" undoubtedly knows well enough, the car wouldn't be appreciated the same way he has, and that it represents more in the way of a monetary gain in the grandsons life..he simply didn't want the hastle of selling it himself, and preferred to keep the car right up to the day he passed.
I wouldn't condemn the grandson for seeking out any and all price values of the house/car from any source available.
I'm sure the grandfather wouldn't have wanted it to be sold at a fraction of its worth..now, that would be disrespectful.

When I taught high school, the line was, "You know you are getting old when the mothers look better to you than the girls."

I guarantee, you're not the only one who's learned not just some stuff about cars here, but maybe a little about people, too.

The mothers tend to be a LOT easier to listen to than the girls- plus they can't run as fast ;)

I did offer my apologies the other night. I have received no response. To be honest, I thinks I may have been correct in his motive. If I hear from him I have alot of info for him.

Its hard to judge actual intent through an internet post . Although its safe to a assume with the admission the car most likely wouldn't be kept it was a fishing expedition. Personally,I don't have a problem with people coming to what should be a specialized source of info providing they are up front with what they are looking for and have done a cursory search of their own. I don't belong to a lot of forums, one has a 50 meaningful post minimum before having access to certain sub forums or posting for sale. Another had a "Whats it Worth? " forum. With the understanding that estimates were pure conjecture. Ended up being a fairly popular and informative sub section with lots of pics and links posted for similar items as comparisons. I could see where that would get heated on some forums though.

Well, that didn't go as expected - Bidding closes in 19 minutes - It will take me longer than 19 minutes to read the listings... Good luck.

It is a medium sized single wide, She is a child of the depression, not actually a hoarder, the few items of use either went to her assisted living apartment , to the grandchildren, or to charity. I took another pickup truck load to the dump this morning.

    Back on topic...

Nothing wrong with being opinionated, that's how a lot of discussion comes about. I think you have handled this thread pretty well.

And you question why kids don't have interest in old cars these days. Where is your stuff going when you pass? Sore subject for me as I spent the last year dealing with all of the stuff my parents have acumulated over many decades. Don't worry I wont ask here.

yes stuff like that as my teenage son luckily has expressed interests in my cars and tools so I am in luck but my best friend isn't and he is trying to figure out where to give his stuff too. I was a long time lucker here an finally joined because of the knowledge and the interesting people on here but it was hard at first as some can be tough

You're lucky you're just bi-polar. I'm still trying to figure out which of the four parallel universes I inhabit I'm in right now.If only I could understand what the voices are whispering.

When most of us grew up, there was always someone working on cars. Family, friends, neighbors to learn from. The internet is now that resource. I go easy on the uninformed.

For the case of decoding a vin to sell a car, they're just looking to represent it correctly and sell it for most money - I think we can all relate to that.
Their relative might told them it was "super special" one of one blah blah. Sometimes they get upset when they find out that's just not the case.

Sorry man, it's gone. I had no buyers so I sold off the "good" parts...both of them.

I once joined a fishing forum to get information on how to get a reel reassembled correctly. No one got pissed that I know of and I got the help I needed. I figure If you don't want to share your knowledge what are you doing on a forum? There are folks of all types found on the internet, which most consider to be one of the best resource tools ever conceived. The free flow of information in both directions helps us all. I don't consider anything I know to be my personal property. I only know what I know from others sharing what they know, cause I didn't learn shit in school.

  29. That is a nice concept, in theory.

In practice around here (and I've been around here a loong time), so often someone asks a question or for help then lots of well meaning people respond. Sometimes the OP gets shitty or gives attitude if they don't like the answers they are getting. And/or, after all the help and suggestions the OP is never heard from again, leaving members talking among themselves. Happens more often, but not exclusively with FNG's.

Now this kind of thing can leave a bad taste in people's mouths and after a while I gather many members have given up on 'sharing information' because they feel they are just wasting their time with people who don't even bother to say thanks, let alone return with feed back. When they do, it's wonderful, almost like a mini miracle. I'd just call it manners.

I understand your well made points. It is up to the individual to put a theory into practice. Not everyone says thank you or even responds but that won't stop most well meaning folks from steering someone in the right direction or relaying what they know or from even offering a "best guess". It is what it is and we are all unique.
