Got back on the coupe. Fabbed and fit the seat brackets. Four bolts on each bracket bolt to the frame and I want to add 4 more that anchor to the body and floorboards . Heard that's good on a fiberglass body. Picked up the freshly cut back and side rear window glass. Time to clean up the openings, prime and set the windows. Have some hickory I plan to make retention blocks for the glass and mounts for the garnish trim. PXL_20230606_015049290.MP.jpg

Same seats Pete had in the Cal Kid. Comfortable once you get in them but a bitch to get in and especially out of.

They are comfortable, plus they came with upholstery, which is pretty thick. That's what makes it hard to get out of. Not the best but will do for awhile. I plan on making my own design bomber seats. These seats give it a drag car feel, which is what I have been going for! And it doesn't bother me if the are referred to as Tupperware seats!
Just finished moving the seats aft another two inches. I am going to add more holes to the mount brackets to allow some adjustments. I am 6'3" and legroom is nice.

I remember (like) those seats too. My dad built a home made dune buggy in the 70s when I was a kid that had similar seats. 20230607_213955.jpg 20230607_214027.jpg

Worked on the wiring a little tonight. Got the wiper motor working and started on the horn relay. All this stuff is from a 57" Chevy, the only difference is my line lock button will blow the horn!! Oh yeah, and we decided to sell our house. We are moving to Montrose,Colo. We lived there in the late 80's and early 90's. Still have some friends there, one of them has a nitrous fed, 462 bbc in his 68" Camaro with a light weight chassis. Maybe I can tow him back to the pits after each run. That would be cool! PXL_20230705_020423821.MP.jpg

Bought repop 32' Ford center hood hinge pieces, 2 sides and one polished center. So I slid in the hinge about 2" into the center strip. Cool it went in easy, but it only opens about 20 degrees. What's the deal, I thought they opened almost straight up. Anybody ever experience this? Help!!

Well, got the steel hood trimmed, primed and temp fastened to the hinges. Wasn't sure if I would like it on or not! But I think I do! PXL_20230718_014544171.jpg PXL_20230718_014553458.jpg

Hood looks awsome! Here are some hood latches I made from scratch that are hidden.

Just found a set of black leather V strap hood hold down kit with brass fittings on ebay. The shape would be the same as the headers. Might look really cool?

I’ve run both the limeworks style (with the banjo springs) and the ones made by the fella that sold on here (Eric, I believe his name was) and had only one little problem with them. I seem to get caught in rainstorms all the time and when the leather gets wet, it stretches out a bit. Would just unfasten them as they were drying and they tightened up again, but hood tops would move a bit (at speed) when they were wet (stretched out). They always held, but it can be a bit unnerving watching your hood lift a bit.
    Just my two cents.

I honestly don't remember the source for hardware dead bolts, but they are stainless. I don't recall buying them online, probably a local thing. I did make sure the hood lacing was in place. The new aftermarket hood lacing was tool "round" and flattened it by running through a slip roller to flatten it.

I’ve been considering the ‘dead bolt’ method for a number of years now and big duece has a great example of them on a flanged hood top. If you are using a standard type set of hood tops that have the hinge rod style hinge then something like the following in the pics might be considered. Credit to the fellas that designed/built them and I’ve ‘borrowed’ their pics.

and I’ve seen those s/s deadbolts on Amazon.
    Hope these help.
    Cheers

Big day today, had the coupe inspected by the Idaho DMV inspector, passed with no issues. Here's a pic of the inspector installing the vin tag. Step one complete, now to pay the taxes and get my title!

House is on the market! Time to pack and hope for a quick sale. We plan on moving back to Montrose, Colorado. Once there the coupe will get finished. For once money won't be an issue!!

Good luck with your sale and move. I hold my breath every time I have one of my builds inspected for a title. When I started building hot rods in the 70's all I needed was a title application with a VIN number. They never checked the car. Now it's become a project. Fortunately I've always been in the same county and everyone knows me and I've never had a bad title to date. These days money is always an issue for me.
