Working on the door sill plates. They weren't bent properly or my gl*** coupe is off. Either way I modified them to fit and dolled them up a little. While working I found my old tool bag from my year in Vietnam. Loads of memories included working on the old CARIBOU C7A aircraft! Next the hood halves and latches. Starting to get excited for next year, I plan to drive the dog **** out of her. We get lots of takeout food and delivery is not cheap, that's where the coupe will shine!!!

 

Question, how are the towel city cheaters on the street? Regular driving require different tires or what?

 

If you're serious, then you need real DOT approved street tires.

Mine has 60+k miles, that's how I know.

 

I've got a few thou on 'em and they're fine around town and freeway. I only keep about 20-25 pounds of air in them, they are stiff sidewall, and these cars don't weigh much so they don't require a lot of air. I will warn you, a little water on the street and they will slide about in a corner.

I was at the beach this year and it poured all night. After it ceased, the sun had come out and we had made breakfast, I sent @Kim Strobeck ahead to the fairgrounds in his highboy 31 (about a 13 mile drive on a fairly straight hwy). He called back and said there was a dry line half or 3/4 the way there but some wet spots still. I took my time cleaning up the campsite and finished my coffee before setting off. I went cruising along on the dry line and got comfortable (error). Took a 45 MPH corner that slowed to 35 after so I downshifted to 3rd in the mild right hander and the back end wandered off. About **** myself, it came back fast and made the rest of the drive fine. Point is, watch them when they are wet!

 

I was looking at the 10.00 x 15 Diamond back tires with the same design as my front tires. They are radials, put them on some 7" Vintage torque thrusts and hope for the best. Anybody have any experience with the Diamondbacks?

 

Thanks, sounds like wet is bad. I grew up in Reading, Pa. My 57 Chevy with a SBC was also fun in the rain, and even more fun on snow! I kinda enjoyed hanging it out, got good at it too. Sounds like it may come in handy again,!

 

I have the Towel City tires on my T - I've only got caught in a drizzle so far, and did ok getting home (no issues). On dry pavement, I'm extremely impressed. They grip up great! I run about 20psi in them.

 

Just keeps getting better. I am curious, what are you gonna do for entertainment when you someday finish this project?

 

The Diamonbacks have been around more than ten years. Most posts on the subject are positive. Just do a search.

 

I never plan to be finished until I am finished!
Interior, paint, multiple carbs, who knows, maybe Hilborns or a blower. The sky and my bank account, are the limits!!! Better seats, heater, etc. the list goes on.

I had an idea years ago about making a tire condom, not only ribbed but knobby. Something you could slip over a drag slick to provide traction enough to get you home or a place of refuge. I was in a tire store getting some wheels mounted and saw these. Someone always beats me to the point. Reusable, machine washable, toss them behind the seat for an emergency. May work. May not.

 

Wouldn't want to be seen in those!! I'd probably forget and do a burnout!!

 

Yesterday was great, 66 degrees, sunny, lite winds. Worked on the coupe all day with the garage doors wide open. Guess I have become a fair weather guy! Not to thrilled about working on a cold dreary day, even with my favorite rock on the radio! Must be getting old? But any progress is a good thing!! Spring is not to far away!!

 

Sorry I missed your post (query), but I’ve put a ton of miles on Diamondback Auburn deluxe tires and lots in pouring rain. The tires worked amazingly well. The tread pattern is wider than Firestone piecrust bias tires, almost like a transport tire actually, and they cut through puddles like a hot knife through ****er. That said, I do run the skinny ones so….
Example from last summer on way home through the Rockies….it poured on me.

Here's the fun details, but that's what makes a car!

 

Finished up the door window detail and put on a pull strap same color as the belts!

 

Finished the right side sill, new battery cable (Tefzel) fits under sill plate. Cleaned it up and primed

Boy do I wish you were my neighbor, but by the time your fibergl*** work is done you probably will have had enough of it.

 

I enjoy doing it, I can be as creative as I can. I have been doing fibergl*** since I was 13. I wonder if other people will notice? Don't forget, this is the rough fit and mechanical fit. Now to see how it holds up on the road. Next year!! Wait till I go in **** mode??

 

Now this is the new oil pan gasket?? Kinda liked the old style!! Not cheap either!!
