Well, I can´t say I love fiberglass but for me it was the only way to build a hotrod over here in germany. I´m still looking for a good 26/27 roadster steelbody, thou. But in the meanwhile I have to use the glass body. I think if the whole car has the right attitude, go for it ! On the other hand I don´t know if I would buy a 49 Merc or a 36 Ford in glass. I think that´s a whole different story.
I ve got a few of both. my brothers 57 vette had cracks all over one of my glass t buckets i traded for has a lot of spider web cracks showing now I ve got it in primer and sanding on it Ive seen stress cracks in a 34 coupe that was for sale. fiberglass is unforgiving if the body does not have enough interior bracing or is not properly fitted and shimmed to the frame Shelby is selling fiberglass Cobra's as well as the Kirkham(provo utah) aluminum bodied cars.
Had to pull out the Squint Ringo Magic Decoder ring for this garbled mess, and still dont really understand the point...............other than like others have said, to make sure you get quality built stuff. I have fiberglass fenders on my 34 and you can tell how much better quality the front fenders are than the rear ones. Look it over before buying.
I thought he retired. Is he working again? Did his son screw up? My read on fiberglass, is it is an economic thing. When fiberglass products cost more or the same as steel, I'd say buy the steel. Simple for me... But there's room in america for reverse economics, and I guess Wescott fills that niche.
