Los Angeles – “Gl***” tops for convertibles, similar to the “blisters” and “bubbles” made by the same company for war planes, have been introduced in Los Angeles. The tops fasten at the same points as regular canvas tops, and are easily removed for storage in the family garage.

Although colorless at this time, a choice of ‘tints’ is planned for the future. The tops are said to be easy to clean and that scratches on the surface of the quarter-inch Plexiglas can be removed by polishing with auto polish or wax.

Made by Fabriform Corporation, of Bayseville, Ohio, they are being distributed by a local Ford agency.

The heat inside was the main reason why the bubble top wasn't put into production, but you got to admit it did make a impression on many builders of custom cars , including the Hambs own Mark Moriarity. HRP

That sure wouldn't have been a good idea back in the hippie days.

Sort of like a gas powered rolling air-fryer.

I think some Edgar Winter SPF 1,000 would be needed for that top!

Early acrylic plastic also didn't do especially well with ultraviolet light and yellowing, not to mention being sensitive to cracking. Later material and grade options were much better and some were actually laminates made up of both polycarbonate and acrylic.
