which is better for power; turbo muffler or glasspack like smithy's or cherry bomb ?
i figure glasspack is straight thru; less restriction, prbly a bit louder
    & better flow

  2. The HP gains are probably so minimal you won't notice. Go with cherry bombs, it'll sound faster! :)

Turbos typically flow better, glasspacks are fairly restrictive at high flow levels.

Some straight through mufflers are ugly inside. With all kinds of louvers and bumps inside that are restrictive.
Stuff like a Magnaflow,Borla straight through are nice inside.(smooth perferations)
I like turbo style or a straight through with a turbo size case. They seam to absorb the bappin' sound.
If you like the bappin' sound stay with a small, round case straight through. Flowmasters flow good but I don't like the sound of them on some engines.
Search the internet for muffler comparisons. One of the Mustang mags did a good test on mufflers. I think that Dynamax turbo was the cheapest high scorin' muffler of their test.

  6. Glass Packs and Turbo Mufflers sound entirely different.
I stay away from Turbo Mufflers in general because that have a tendency to filter out the higher frequencies and produce a low frequency hum that can transmit through the frame and cabin of your car-- and help all your neighbors to know exactly when you're coming & going, whether they want to know or not. It's just science- low frequencies are non-directional (they go everywhere, including in front of your, beside your car, and through windows, walls, and doors.)
To me they sound like crap on a stock motor.

Traditional Fiberglas- packed bullet style mufflers have a higher pitch to them, and tend to filter out the lower frequency, monotonous rumbling........and if you buy them right they are only loud when you are at WOT. They are perfect for a stock or mild motor because they are so laid-back at idle. Plus, the characteristic rasping sound is very traditional.

If you've got a Chevelle with a 572 and three inch exhaust, you NEED well-engineered turbo mufflers, but if you have a traditional car and want some cool sounding attitude when you tromp the pedal.glass-packs are THE coolest.
