I wanted to drive my roadster to the LA Roadster show but noticed that only roadsters with gloss paint will be allowed in the roadster parking area. Mine has a satin finish, is that a no-go?

Correct. No flat paint, no primer spots. Has to be totally finished including upholstery. All the criteria is on their website if I remember correctly.

Park it in the swap meet area; more fun out there anyway.

Leave the inside parking to the easter egg colored 32 Fords. The real stuff is in the lot. it's more fun outside..

I'm told that admission to the shiny roadster parking area is free, and you get a cool commemorative pewter mug or something like that....so I suppose each area has it's benefits. The roadster area is for cars through '36, and I don't think it's in the rules anywhere that it has to be painted like an Easter egg.

From pics I've seen, the swap area draws some really cool stuff and you could spend a whole weekend just in the swap meet.

    From the show website
    Roadsters

Enter through main Gate #1 off McKinley Avenue. The main attraction will be the hundreds of 1936 and older open cars of all types and makes; some original, some modified, but all of the highest quality and completely finished with glossy paint, painstakingly restored to the owner's preference.

Roadsters and the driver are free. Roadster p***engers pay $20 for the weekend and children under 12 are free. Over 800 roadsters entered the show in 2013. No flat paint roadsters allowed in roadster parking. No cruising the fairgrounds for liability reasons.

    http://www.laroadsters.com/shownews.html

It has been that way since day one as far as I know. To whine about it seems rather trivial.
The beater cars get put in other areas as someone said previously. To show up with flat paint, primer or a Patina aka rust bucket and expect to be let in the main area knowing that that rule has been in effect since day one is about the same as one of the billet brigade showing up at billetproof with his Camaro and expect to be let in because he has a 70K show car. Each club or promoter gets to set the rules and we have to respect them.

  12. Beater cars ..... wow. Gloss paint only but tilt columns power seats iroc mirrors, billet stearing wheels, etc are welcome. Gotta love it. Probably my favorite show of the year.

I parked with the painted roadsters once, after that I rather pay to park in the preferred area, more fun and better crowd...

    Just my thoughts

    Mr.48 CHEV has it correct!
I can't believe all these "Wanna be" answers.
In the past at Great Western, you only made it in the exhibition with a finished car period.----Then at 4pm I would give you an engraved English pewter mug in appreciation for showing your 1936 & older open car.
There were no special parking BS, not like it is today where everything goes.

They wouldn't let "Ol' Dad in with his roadster either! Primer spots, you know!

How about the headlight stickers? Do they go on the inside cars only, or all cars that attend the event? Bob

'Inside' cars only if I recall correctly. But you can buy them for a dollar or so from the LA Roadsters booth.

There's as many if not more cars 'outside' in the swap and speciality parking areas. Saturday is the big day for the speciality parking.

  19. It's their show, so it's their rules. I'm totally cool with that.

Park out in the lot, check out the swap meet, and then go inside and check out the roadsters.

I went in '07 with my '33 roadster with flat paint and parked in the swap meet area. When I went in the gate, they stopped me to collect my money and they put a sticker on my headlight. I do not know if it was just because it was a roadster, or they do it for all special interest cars.

I went last June and there was one satin finished roadster parked in with the shiny roadsters. It was very nice but had satin paint, black satin so he must have slipped in. Just tell them it is paint with out the clear.

  24. Your roadster is so easy on the eyes they'll probably let you in. If not it's their loss! Go find some real rodders!

Wait, two things. First, if you bring your car into the "preferred parking/swap section" yes. you do get a headlight sticker. That's how they identify who paid to get in. Second, nobody is really pointing out that the far bigger reason many of us go to this show year after year IS the swap meet/preferred parking section, and not the roadster parking. This'll be my 26th year...

Over the years Bob, the stickers kinda got outa' hand, when I came up with the "Stickers" back at Great Western, they were put on the left headlight for registration purposes, rather than tell all about them here, you can read the whole story by cliking on the attachment.----Don

According to the post above, the rules say "glossy" and no "flat" paint.

Not to split hairs (but it may explain some of the "sneak in" stories) it doesn't say high gloss, and doesn't say no satin paint.

    Satin paints have gloss.
