I just love generic statements like that. So I can ***ume heat warpage from welding and a ****load of "bog" is traditional . Have a good look under the hood or trunk lid of a '63 falcon etc The manufacturers used a form of glue to hold the centre of the skins to the frame back then. The glues nowadays are just more advance and can be used in other areas.
my "generic" statement was true, you misunderstood what i meant. i like to weld, actually i love to weld, i hate to glue things, never had as far back as i can remember. nothing wrong with the glue and i never said there was, you read too much into my statement. would i glue a body panel some day? probably.........but i am not going to like it.
I used the 3M panel bond while replacing the roof skin on a 70 Chevy pickup . Saved a lot of time and worked very well. Will use it again. you can spray weld through primer ,but you still burn through that and leave chances for rust . Not with the panel bond. You treat both sides and glue it together and no bare metal to form rust spots later. I still weld patch panels where I can get to both sides to treat the metal after welding. There is a time and place for both bonding and welding.
