GM 2 band hydro query

I am working on a 2 band hydro in a 53 Hudson. The trans is rebuilt, all frictions are in excellent shape, bands perfect, etc. I cannot get the front band to apply. With the pan off and shop air at 80psi applied thru the main pressure port between the band adjusters, I have a HUGE leak on the front servo ***y, coming from the compensator body. My gut feeling is that I inherited a problem, but does anyone have a good picture or diagram of the correct valve train line up for the compensator valve?
