I'm building a very budget 54 and I already had a 307 laying around so I decided to stuff it in. Almost everybody talks bad about these motors but why. I only intend to run it until I graduate and can afford something better. Is there anything I need to be cautious of when I finally get ready to crank and run it? Any info on it aside from "those motors ****" would be greatly appreciated.

There's really nothing wrong with a 307, it's basically a 283 with a 350 crank. The small bore will shroud valves if youre going for a max performance build. But for a cruiser, the 307 is fine.

No. The 307 had the 3.25 stroke of the 327.

Bore it to 4" and you got a 327, or destrke it with a 283 crank and you got a 283, or do both and you got a 302! Wow, imagine the posibilitys! :D

My cousin built a .040 over 307 with a 375 horse solid Vette cam and a performer intake the rest was stock. It was in a 70 Nova w/ a 3speed and a cheap floor shifter and 3.43 gear set.Street light to street light the big inch motots didn't have much for him.

They got a bad rap because of an issue with soft cams. Other than that they are a typical SBC. If it's a sound engine, good compression, decent carb and ignition they will provide thousands ot miles of trouble free transportation. When you wear it out after a coupe of hundred thousand miles take out the crank, find yourself a 350 block and build a kick *** 327.

Thanks everybody. To tell ya more about the motor, I bought it for 75 smackers...it a powerglide, performer intake, and some awesome (not really)chrome Edelbrock valve covers... I think the valve covers are the 15 horse models. Really though I think the guy told me he put something like a Comp. 268 or something like that in it. Thanks again.
