This differential came with a ‘48 coupe body i am slowly working on.
I think its Camaro/Nova 8.2…it’s about the 42 7/16” (measurement identifies at Camaro/nova)between spring perches..I know i put a Nova rear in my ‘68 Firebird 40 years ago however i forget exactly what it looked like.. I do recall the rear i installed in the fire bird was a couple inches narrower than stock..but i could be wrong..
Looks like this diff only needs a pinion seal..i have yet to find casting # and there is no tag on diff.
Any opinions as to what i have..thanks

the square bottom lumps indicated it might be a 8.5" rear, not 8.2. These started in use in the early 70s.

kind of rusty, but clean around the tubes and see if it's stamped, either on the top or front of the p*** side tube. Should be a series of numbers/letters.

also look at the stamped numbers on the ring gear, turn the gears to see if you can find them. Post pictures of it. should have part number, date, and ratio (tooth counts).

Thanks. That’s some information I didn’t find doing online search.
Update The gears are 4.10. Also learned the 1 1/4” pinion nut and 5/16” bolt head holding pinion gear in identifies this as a 8.5”
The 8.2 would have 1 1/16” pinion nut and a 1/2” bolt head holding pinion gear
