    I've been searching around for info on #3870014 but it's not on any of the lists I've found. Is it a crate motor? Any feedback would be appreciated. Thanks.

    How about the code that is on the pad that is in front of the passenger side head?

    the 014 block was usually an early 70s 2bbl 350, in passenger cars. Like the 010 but they were never 4 bolt mains (as far as I know).

    It's a basic 350, nothing to get excited about, but a nice foundation for a mild hot rod engine.

    edit: oh yeah...you need to be searching for 3970014, not 3870014. the cast numbers are hard to read.

    Thanks to you both for the reply.

    Gimpyshotrods, I was able to find the numbers on the pad in front of the passenger side head as you suggested. Best I can tell they are : 11D174 and 10424CGC. Any idea what they mean? Thanks again.

    the first number is missing the last 3 digits, but they are not important.

    1=Chevy car
    1=1971
    D is the assembly plant for the car

    The second number set, the first number is probably really a F for Flint, or a T for Tonawonda. 04 is April, 24th day of the month. CGC is the suffix, which is a 1971 2bbl 350 with a manual transmission, used in the camaro, nova, monte carlo, and full size cars.

    The assembly plant might tell you which model, because they assembled certain car lines in specific plants. Of course, D is not a valid code for 1971 in the book I'm looking at right now..

    Doraville Assembly, Doraville, Georgia, 1947-2008, is the only US "D" plant that I could find, that was running at that time.

    It was a BOP plant, though.

    That makes sense. I didn't look very hard for D, thanks.
