I've got a 360/727 combo in a '59 Dodge truck. There is no column or shifter in it now. I'd like to go column shift, but Mopar didn't do that 'till 1965 or later, and those look too muscle car to me; and are not readily available around here anyway.

GM stuff with column shift is more plentiful and cheaper; and is available with a "pre-muscle car" look. What would be required to shift a Torqueflite 727 with a GM column shifter?

    Really?...
    Nobody's done this??
Could it be as easy as matching the length of the shifter arm at the bottom of the column to the length of the arm on the tranny, then devising a cable or linkage to connect them?

  3. Really you'd have to mock it all up and build a linkage for it. Lokar makes a cable set up for use on column shift gm columns that should have enough adjustability to get the selector set right. I think Julianos makes a universal likage set up as well. No reason it won't work. I've seen it in a 41dodge truck that had a 318 and 904 in it and it worked fine.

I thought I saw steering columns advertised where you could pick what MFRs shift configuration you wanted. I will keep looking.

All I'm aware of use GM standards, so I assume that's TH-350 style.

measure the bellcranks on the side of the trans and you should be able to adapt it over , since there is no real detents in the column ( the detents are in the trans) you might be able to use the cable retrofit from ididit that gets rid of linkage rods and bellcranks and make the point adjustment on the shift arm on the column

I checked with Ididit and they said that while it could probably be made to work, that's not what it was intended for.
I'll just keep an eye out for a column to monkey with.

Jeep Grand Wagoneers used a gm style column and it was connected to a 727.

What did the folks at Ididit say this product was intended for?

That's for Chrysler column shifter to Chrysler tranny.

In the meantime since starting this thread I think I've scored a steering column w/shifter & wheel from a '68 Coronet, so that Ididit item will probably do it for me. I was going to piece something together myself, but by the time I purchase a cable & the miscellaneous parts I can't make myself its probably worth it just to buy it from Ididit.
