Hi, Doing some research on Buick convert -49 located here in Finland. I was wondering if some swiss hamber could fill me in with some info regarding this GM plant and maybe even the car. There is a body tag that clearly says Bienne and the car was left in Finland 1960 by Swiss musician who crashed with a bus while in Finland. Somebody might think this is OT but the car represents the local Us car culture of its time. It saw some heavy decal and paint "hot rodding" and was used to chase chicks and even toured to Spain before 1966 when it was garaged. Now back on the road. Any info would be helpfull. Can send some pics if intrest raises.... LOUD
Hey HooJii LOUDpipes, have you bought this car lately? It's nice that it has not been restored eventhough it has had several owners through the years. (What a waste would've that been!)
cool, cool, cool! don't see very many of those. hope somebody can help find the info your looking for but if not at least you still get to enjoy the car. hell just make up some story that some diplomats kid owned it.
I used to own a 53-Chevrolet parts car made in Switzerland. The body tag said something like General Motors Suisse. Should have a photo of the tag somewhere. --mika
wow, that's an interesting car! yes, there used to be a GM factory in the swiss town Bienne. During the 50s there were high taxes in Switzerland on import cars, called something like "luxury taxes". Thus, GM imported the cars in pieces to save taxes and assembled them in their own factory in Bienne. There was an article in a swiss vintage car magazine some months ago, I'll try to find it. Stay tuned... Btw, my '63 belair was also built by GM Switzerland. And there were swiss built mopars, too, as the AMAG (swiss VW importer) assembled Plymouths, Dodges, Chryslers and DeSotos during many years.
