Is there a way to bolt a TH200 or TH 350 to the back of a RWD 2.5 litre (151) GM "Iron Duke" engine??? I'm not sure which auto ******s were available behind these engines from the factory in S10 trucks and the odd F-body car...or what bellhousing pattern they use. Anyone know??? Shifts??? Thanks in advance, Gang!!
I think it was '81, AMC put the Iron Duke in Jeeps, adapted up to a Mopar Torqueflite. so that's a possibility too. and there's the Phoenix front wheel drive which also got used for a rearwheel drive mid engine setup in the Fiero. Sunbird had the "regular" ****** setup for RWD.
What year is the engine? The Iron Dukes used in Monzas and their clones use the "standard" small block pattern bellhousing. I think the later ones use a pattern first used on FWD GM cars. It is a smaller pattern. Speedway sells an adapter that allows use of the larger/older patterned automatics against blocks with the small pattern. I'm not sure if you can use that adapter to mate a stick. The iron duke was used in Camaros also. The Camaros with 2.8/3.1 V6 engines and standard trans would be a good source for what you want to do. I think they may mount the trans turned slightly in a clockwise direction. 2WD S10's would be a source also.
My Iron Duke from a '79 Chevy Monza has the standard Chevy bolt pattern for the bellhousing. The T5 should bolt right up to the bellhousing. I may have to get a different clutch disc. I'll do a follow-up in a couple of years when I get to that project....
Correction to my previous post: I missed that you wanted an auto trans. Use one from a Camaro or a 2WD S10. There should be plenty of Auto trans from 4cyl/V6 to V8 S10 swaps. Lots of blown up V6 Camaros with good trans.
looks like there are a few different flavors.... https://ironduke7.tripod.com/dukevariations.htm has some info
