i just remembered some more things, like some above said, use the gto throw out brg on the newer style trans, on the older type with the slave cyl, the starter on my hemi sits where the factory style push type slave would go. so i found a pull style slave from Howe so it mounts on the rear of the fork.
34toddster...........I could not find out the mileage so I had a local respected trans shop go thru it before I put it in and used the trans oil that they recommended. The tranny was quiet but just was not as smooth shifting as the T5. Probly would have lasted forever. The package was also a little bulkier than the bell housing/T5 combo I am using right now.
Digging up an old thread but having a difficult time understanding what Clutch will bolt to a BBC Flywheel. What I have: 1977 454 BBC 1996 NV3500 from a 1500 with a 4.3L Does anyone know if a 4.3L clutch will mate to a BBC flywheel? I have not bought the flywheel yet but would like to know if the pressure plate bolt holes line up and the thickness stack up would allow for such a swap. If anyone can help, that would be great.
I'm not sure, if you can find a fly wheel with a dual bolt pattern that is the one I'd buy, if that exists. It's been so long I don't remember what size the 96 truck clutch dia is. If it is a 11 inch I believe the 454 wheel will work. Take the PP with you to buy the flywheel if the bolt hole line up you are good to go.
Why would you need to use the 4.3 pressure plate? The disc has to match the trans input shaft but the PP really does not care what it is clamping to the flywheel. In fact, the disc can, if needed, be smaller than the PP. The main requirement for the PP and the disc is that you have enough grip to transfer the torque that you plan to unload to the trans... A couple of thoughts: Many flywheels have multiple bolt patterns and you can re-drill yours if really needed. If the overall height is of concern then ask your favorite parts counter guy to plop a couple contenders on the counter and measure them. Be aware that some T/O bearings are sensitive to the type of fingers on the PP so stay with the original design. .
Thanks Everyone. Was hoping someone would have done this before for an easy answer. I will research to see if I can find a multiple mounting holed Flywheel. I believe the clutch disc to be 11" but will measure tonight.
Check this out....general rule silverado uses wide ratio, S10 uses close ratio. GM being GM - I'm sure there are exceptions. https://www.700r4transmissionhq.com/nv3500-specs-identification-m50-md5/
I would like to clear up some confusion around the nv3500 sbc combination. You do not use a 4.3 anything in joining the two. A 4.3 flex plate will not mount to the rear of the sbc crankshaft. So you need a 10 spline 1 1/8th clutch kit for an SBC plus the 350 flywheel for any of that to even come together. And as a bonus you need shorter starter bolts for a mini starter... Understood this is an unwarranted thread revival Happy Thanksgiving
Information never gets old. Here's a link I found helpful when I was working with an NV3500: https://www.dieselhub.com/trans/nv3500.html
