    Why wont a modern transmission work ? I put a 5 speed behind my 235. A lot less than a grand

    Yeah, why would anyone want that? If you are going open drive a later 3 speed would be easy and synchro first and can be made to work with the stock shifter. Personally I think the torque tube with 3.55 gears is the way to go….
     
  8. I just went with a 3.36 in my Buick. Same transmission a d torque tube.
    It LIKES 80 mph.
