ok, so kinda off topic, but since it's an excellent example of Custom Fabrication, Design and Promotion, I just thought some folks would be interested.. Just so all of you guys are aware, especially those in town for Carlisle and Hershey, the bus is on display at the AACA museum in Hershey, PA this week, and will be at the AACA Hershey fall meet next week, displayed on one of the volunteer's spaces at Hershey fall Meet... admission to the Museum is only 8 bucks for non members, and includes being able to see the futureliner and if you give a donation you can crawl up in the cab!!! I was stupid and forgot my camera, but here's a pict yanked from their website, and the link as well... http://www.futurliner.com/ I saw it today and was very impressed!!!!
I've been watching the restoration for a while too. Really amazing truck, they put an unbelievable amount of work into it, and it shows.
Was fortunate enough to be in Scottsdale during Barrett Jackson this last year. Went one evening and saw it up close before it auctioned off for 4 million. Thing is awesome! Americana!
The Scottsdale bus and the one at Hershey are from the same fleet of 12 but different busses, the one at Hershey has a proper restoration.
Yeah, the scottsdale bus is also known as the "canadian futurliner" It was in private ownership, used as a camper if i recall correctly... with all the fuss about the restoration of #10 (the one at hershey) this guy decided to re-paint the exterior and re-apply copies of the cast letters and auction it off... bringing over 4 million dollars as stated...one of the volunteers at the museum told me that before the auction they had their perfectly restored example insured at around 1 million... now they have no idea what it is worth!!! A few cool side notes.. the white walls were impossible to find.. no tire manufactuer wouldmake the truck sized white walls... they thought all was lost until one volunteer stoped by a old run-down tire shop in western Michigan.... asked the older owner if he new of any places they could get the white walls... his response.. he thought he might try and vulcanize some on regular tires! hahaha... so after all the big name manufacturers said it couldn't be done, a small roadside tire shop had the job done in a week... gotta love it... the windshield on this bus also was missing... the previous owenr of the canadian futurliner had an extra, (it seems he had a couple made in order to get his on the road) so he sold the curved glass windshield (yes that winshield is actual glass not plexi!) to the group for $10,000!!! I guess that's the price you pay for authenticity! glad I could see it in person, hope alot of you do too....
New England has a "State Fair" called the Big E. I was there tonight and there was another GM Futureliner. Pics are kind of dark, as it was twilight and the reflective lettering made it worse with the flash on. I looked inside through the rear hatch, this one had some TV studio type set up in it. No whitewalls on this ride. Ray in CT
Could you imagine tryin to maneuver that thing down the road! Didn't they max out at like 45 or 50 mph?
The Canadian bus was "FIDO" There was another bus in CA. for sale for 25K, it had been rearended at one point
