I've been reading for a while and just recently registered. Hello all and thank you. I came up with a problem today. My project is a 55 Chevy truck, Versailles 9" with a Volare subframe. Steering column is 77 Pontiac. I put in a new ignition switch today and a screw went down into the column an inch or two. Not a problem, get a magnet , right? I came up with the screw but also had some sort of spring clip about 1.250" long, kinda bent in half. Anyone have a diagram that would show where this little clip might go? It is below the turn signal indicator plastic piece, below the ignition switch. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
i'm a little confused...the ignition switch is down alongside the lower part of the column it isn't the C-clip the holds the lock plate is it?
I saw a plastic piece with two metal "prongs" sticking out of it. That's not it. It's not the c-clip. It came from about 3-4 inches below the lockplate. At the 6 "o clock" position. Flat metal about 3/16" wide and about 1-1/4" long somewhat of a v shape like it fits in a hole.
IF IT IS A TILT COLUMN.. THERE IS A SPRING CLIP THAT SITS UNDER THE "RACK" FOR THE IGNITION SWITCH.. IT KEEPS THE RACK AGAINST THE "SECTOR" GEAR. IT IS LOCATED ON THE LEFT SIDE OF THE COLUMN WHERE THE TURN SIGNAL ARM GOES IN.. THE CLIP I'M TALKING ABOUT HAS A BIT OF AN ARCH TO IT AND THE ENDS ARE BENT IN SORT OF A "V" TO HOLD IT IN PLACE..
