1951 shoe box with a gm sub frame which I ***umed was a camaro (bought it installed) with a sb 350 in it. Bought a new set of headers from Sanderson Headers Model CC3 which should fit right in with no clearance problems. Left side no problems with a 2.5 inch pipe going to the collector. The right side I have no room with the starter installed. The end of the starter is about an inch from the A arm with no room on either side for a pipe to go to the collector. The old set of headers that were installed were full length with the collector below and aft of the fire wall. Sanderson doesn't quite understand the clearance problem, I'm going to send them pictures. Has anyone had a problem like this? Maybe it's a nova or S10 sub frame? Sanderson has a set for chevelles that looks like would work but chevells don't have sub's. I,m stumped.

Maybe it could be your starter, 168 tooth is larger than the 153 tooth one. the larger flexplate kicks the starter out farther. Hope that helps!

Are the engine mounts in the subframe factory locations?

Does the subframe have holes in it where it bolted to the Camaro?

I used a '69 Camaro sub and 350 in a '41 Ford P/U and headers for a '69 bolted right in. Although I soon went to cast manifolds because of the effort to keep header gaskets sealed.

Could it be a Nova sub...??? I don't know if there is a difference, I'm only speculating...

    ------------

Maybe you should be using Sanderson's header #CS12. That's the one I'm using on my '50 Shoebox with S10 frontend. On the CS12, the collector sweeps back away from and above the starter. The style of the CC3 looks like the collector exits right on top of the starter... doesn't look like that one will work to me.

  6. Someone couldn't cut the front frame out of a Chevelle and use it like a subframe?

The Camaro subframe is too wide for the shoebox; I have heard of several people using the 80s Monte Carlo clip and few have tried the Nova or early (rear steer) Camaro sub. You might check to see what the Sandersons for the Monte look like to see if that is the case on your car.
