Im hoping yall can help me figure out what looks to be a GM 3 speed OD..? & whats its application would be. I got all of this together years ago. Cleaning shop and wondering if its junk & I should toss it out or if its worth keeping for one of my own builds. I have all the linkages & the driveshaft as well. I had no luck searching any of the #'s Thanks fellas.
Chevy 3 speed overdrive, but it's upside down. Used from 55-64 mostly. the cars didn't have a rear mount pad until 58. Trucks used a case with threaded lower mounting holes up front, to match the bellhousing which had through holes. The solenoid is worth about as much as the whole thing is worth, if it works.
Ok thankyou, I'll do some research on testing the solenoid. I already have a couple spare T5s & 4 speeds & a rebuilt 3 speed. I dont reckon I'll end up using it. It'll probably end up here in the classifieds before I give the scrap man a call.
JMHO, but having driven T5, T10, various 3spd, I would much prefer an electric OD in a driver. In traffic 2nd gear OD works like a full auto 2spd without shifting. Great at 30-50 or so.
In I'll certainly list it here before I scrap it. I'll stick it back on the shelf if I figure a home for it on one of my projects. Any local guys need it, shoot me a PM. Thanks for the info..
I had a '59 with that trans and put lots of miles on that car. I loved that transmission. Miss the car
So for clarity here, this specific unit is made to bolt behind a V8 correct ? I was recently at a buddys house & he has one very similar & said it was for his 55 era 235 Inline... Ive never heard of a 3spd OD for a GM Inliner. Or is it as simple as using a different bell housing ? Thanks for the help.
Trans has the std GM bolt pattern on the front where it bolts to the bellhousing, will bolt to a bellhousing with the same pattern, whether 6 cyl or V8. Only issue is the bearing retainer diameter, trucks typically used larger diam than cars.
The transmission would fit 55-80s or so cars and 55-67 trucks. With either V8 or 6 engine. They were used till the mid 60s, when most switched to the Saginaw 3 speed.
