i searched and didnt find the answer in the search forum. i got a 270 out of a early 50's gmc truck im going to use in a hotrod project. almost all the paint is off the motor and appears to have been red. what was the stock color of the motor? all the ones ive found in junkyards have been solid rust and one i saw in a army truck was OD

I worked on a lot of GMC 302s that were green. In fact the whole truck was green. The driver wore green. So did I. It was a real green nightmare. And we didn't recycle.

According to www.oldgmctrucks.com the 51 to 58 gmc engines were red: Dupont Nason Full Thane 2k Urethane – 54701BD – Code 514 – color Crimson Red – General Motors. Other years were painted avocado and dark green
