Technical GMC 302 engine builders

  1. I would like to connect with Profesional 302 GMC engine builders to find how much can this block safely be decked.
    Thanks John Mullen

  2. How much you take off is going to depend on other factors. Pistons being used, CR desired, head gasket thickness, rods being used, how much being taken off the head, using a turbo or not, etc. Are you using Jimmy to do the machining? You may want to confer with him. I have never done a 302 but getting ready to do a 292.
Typically, you can machine down to zero deck. @302GMC to the white phone.

BTW, I believe we met at Philbates once or twice.

  3. Another factor to consider- Has any cylinder been sleeved? Most sleeves are installed with a .250 "hat", but I have seen less. Is it a civilian or military block?

Of the four I've done in recent years, only one took more than .001 to clean. Has the surface of your block been damaged ?

  5. No using a skinner 22 port and need more compression ratio

Hussey Performance can make copper gaskets at .025” if that helps. They have the patterns or did years ago when I was running nitro. Just need your bore…
