Do what we used to do before all the cheap Chinese blister pack ****. Take the parts to a chrome shop. Not trying to be a smart***, but you'll get better quality.

I have a 10 year-old Patrick's catalog that lists chrome valve covers, side covers, and timing covers for the 302. Also has Fenton headers, multi-carb manifolds and internal go-fast stuff for the Jimmy's

I haven't talked to him in a long time but you could try this....520-836-1117

  4. Danny, I was on C.T. with you, had asked you overdrive questions.
    A gent there, now 81, has built a BEAUTIFUL 1950, with a GMC 302.
Click on the link below, then look at photos on left side.
Scroll down until you see Jacks beautiful 302. He is still there on C.T.

I think Arias still makes a nice shiny aluminum cross flow head. :) Big bucks though. When I was building mine, I found the aluminum valve cover a swap meet, the headers at another swap meet and had the aluminum side cover machined with fins. I located the old blower manifold at the old Stovebolt company and had a plenum machined. There are parts out there, but it's tough to find them. Try looking on the Inliners website. Here's a picture of mine:

look up and join Inliners International. They send out a news letter with lots of good stuff advertised. A surprising number of people still think of the 302 as a race motor.

I know ****, csnt recall his screen name, from Omaha had one in his 54 Kustom. I recall it having multiple carbs and a five speed.

So the parts are out there but they're basically rare parts for an already uncommon engine.

Most of what you'll turn up with be chromed stock stuff or polished aluminum.

  10. Do you have the 302 in your car now? I remember past conversations on Chevy Talk with a modified 235 in your car.

Not true. This must be from a guy with no experience with GMC powered Hot Rods. Any thing you need is out there. just not in the Summit catalog. Attached a picture of my 270 powered '32 Ford.

You have any closer pics of the engine? I remember when I was building mine. I'd call a place up and say "do you sell speed parts for a 302 Jimmy 6?" Answer: "you mean 302 ford v8?" "No, 302 GMC inline 6 cylinder, you got anything?" Reply "what's that?" My reply: "never mind" and I'd hang up. Lol. It was frustrating at times but the inliners website is a great source of info

The 302 is not like the common GM in liners and most people don't even know what they are.

So yes, the stuff is out there but most people aren't even going to know what your talking about so it's not like it's going to be as simple as walking down the swap meet isle and finding everything.

Rare and un common don't mean you can't find it, just that your going to have to actualy look for it.

Edit- I ment polished aluminum in regard to what he's going to find for old speed parts will likely be cast aluminum and you can polish it to be shiney. Since he was asking about shiney I thought that was applicable. I didn't mean it as polishing stock aluminum bits

image.jpeg image.jpeg With a little inquiry you can find rocker covers and side plates which are repops and maybe better than the original. Wayne items come to mind. Inliners International's 12 Port News has ads for them too. Intakes are getting a little "pricey " but somewhere I read the Howard 5 carb was remade and with block offs fewer carbs could be used. My stash is waiting for a street engine and my 12 ports are made of unobtainium since no one seems to want to cast them up even tho the molds are there. I don't blame them as the last ones done were hard to break even on. And as Rich says some guys think these are race engine and where they got that idea I'll never know. Good Luck

You can contact Don Ferguson @ ardun.com He has reproduced the Wayne rocker cover and side plate.
I don't know your plans but building a 270 is just as good as a 302 unless you have one already. They share the same crank stroke of 4" . For the street I'll suggest the latest 270" head also. It has the smallest chamber and you can put larger valves in it but it will make a lot of low end torque with the stock size valve. It does have a smaller intake port but with a large port intake tapered to fit at the head also makes great velocity and is great for street use. You can mill .100" safely for more compression and put in hardened seats.
The 302 D style chamber is getting big bucks and can easily take 2"+ intakes and 1.6" exhaust if that's what you want. Anyway good luck....

Iwanaflattie...H heads go for crazy $$$. To me they are the best but take a ton of work make right. They are the poorest for the street because of trying to make compression. I just saw one go for 1200.. Good luck.

Don't know one but I'm sure he'll answer the phone # listed on the site. I don't know whether he currently has any but I remember him redoing them **** Larrowe made some too but he p***ed away. I believe his son is taking care of the inline stuff now. I believe he can be reached at jjinlines.com.

I have no dog in the hunt but ALL the manufacturers are way too proud. What are you to do if you want a specialized part? I just bought pistons and rings for my 12 port build and they were twice the price as off the shelf forged racing piston/ring combo for our Dart block 1/2 mile dirt engine from one of the best suppliers. How about some long rods for your GMC? Summit for your small block Chev. Hold on to your wallet for a GMC.
dtwbcs have you priced chroming your stock cover and side plate? Chromers are proud too but I don't meet their eco rules or laws. Don't get discouraged keep up the hunt and check out the Inliners International.. Good Luck.

You built a turbo setup for yours? It is hard to tell in the pick.

I would think that a Paxton style blower and a blow through carb would be a simple setup for one and stock you could keep your boost low for pump gas but still get the benefit of forced induction.

built that thing in '77-'78. I used two Corvair turbos because they were cheap in junkyards at the time I paid $19 for the first one because I didn't have the $20 asking price in my pocket at the time. It went 158 in that coupe which was good enough to get the rules changed to make it illegal.
