Hi, I'm after some advice please. I'm currently working on an early series 55 gmc stepside with a 248, and a hydra-matic. The motor is toast. I have the chance of a 228 out of a 53 gmc, what I wanted to know is if these two engines are the same, bar the capacity, or if there are any other differences. In short will the 228 work as a direct replacement?
    Many thanks

^That might be a problem. I know guys who have put the 248 cranks in the the 302 for a shorter stroke engine and never said anything about a flywheel problem. To me that's an indication of the 6 bolt. 228's all had a 4 bolt as I remember.
