GNRS "FAKE" barn find", anybody else notice?

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by Bad Bob, Jan 29, 2007.

  1. I hope i'm not the only one who figured out that it was a Brookville, body. That's just wrong. The owner totally lied about the car. Any thoughts?

The car was in TRJ issue 32. In the issue it says its a fake, and the guy who owns it is the dynamat owner. He created the story to go along with the car. In the issue it shows the car as a cutaway which i think he built a duplicate or something and made a running car.It was created the cutaway version to showcase the differant dynamat products

Your talking about the orange 32 that looks like a old salt flats racer right?

At first I thought it was the real deal too, but the chromes are brand new, then if you check under the car, you see nice new bolts all around and the brookville floors. What I don't understand is why doing some' like this?

I think it's kinda like taking Viagra, it's not done the original way but just as fun

  9. Not just that. It was in the building that was supposed to represent the history and the best represented '32 Fords. Not only did the sign make NO refference to the Brookville body, but the guy was telling people a bullshit story about how he found it.

  11. Not saying the car isn't cool or anything. It's an all-out lie. When I posted pic's of my buddies glass, patina car,it was different. He never lied about the car being glass. This car's in the 75th anniversary of the '32 building, not on the last isle of a swapmeet.

i think lying about it, and making up a story is stupid. if it's brookville, just say it's brookville. get alot more respect that way i'd suppose. cool car though.

actually the thing that bothered me the most about the deuce hall wasnt the obvious fake "barn find", it was the fact that they made the Boydster one of the 75 historical 32 fords of all time, there isnt a single ounce of henry steel in that car.

If it was a '20's era Bentley no one would be caring if the body was "original" or not.
It's an original Chassis and engine that have the valuable numbers on them on an actual "classic" car.
This is just another Ford that's been rebodied in the fashion of an actual classic.
The patina is a bit confusing but it's a sign of the times.

If it was an original body with, oh, say the bottom 1/3 of it replacement panels for rust repair would that be ok?
If not, at what point is it ok or not ok to repair an old body with fresh steel?

It's not like he cloned something like the Moonglow or James Dean Porsche and tried passing it off as the original.

There was an article in AutoWeek recently about a Ford GT40 that decades ago was restored at a shop and while they were at it they cloned it and it's serial number and sold the clone in Europe.
All was out of sight out of mind till the "other" car came up for sale on the WWW and now there's some red faces, and legal shit happening.

Got say that I noticed right away, A fellow PRC club member showed up about an hr B4 the show closed on friday night and I took a very good look @ it. Read the sign then Mike who's had the body that Scarry Larry now has & now has another gennie looked this paint scheme over as well. Just by standing mearly 5ft away one can tell.
It may have been a Barn find sedan/coupe, but not with that new roadster body=lol!!!
Look, I have basically the same thing save for parts of the cowl.
I dig idea of putting that up as a prop, but not illuding to it being in that exact config when found.
I did notice that the Veda Orr car was a killer dupe!!!! But from what Jim Lattin tells me is that the former Elmo Gillette roadsters body is the Veda's dead nuts deal. I have looked over that body many times, and I can tell you, That one has some scars! It too was wearing the Karl Or Speed Shop moniker on its rails and was to the left of the dead nuts clone! Wonder if Jim is gonna change the scheme on that on Veda's colors as well???

I like old cars with old car patina. But a new car with old car patina just doesn't make much sense. Especially when the chrome is brand new and apparently the underside of the car is unecesarily clean. I never thought that patina would become so popular. And on that note I now can't wait to get some fresh paint on my car.

I actually thought a show like this in a hall with just duece roadsters would be a little bit more authentic concious. I thought it was the real thing with re-chromed posts and stanchions but someone else in this board posted that he spoke with the owner and said it was a B-ville and interior is from a phateon and the rest are garage finds and patina'd to hell. Never owning one, I really could not tell plus I was dumbfounded with all the 32's around me, I just assume that everything in that room is authentic. Man was I wrong.

So let me get this straight. Gold chainers are not just trying to build fiberglass cars to look like ours now but also making up barnfind stories like ours now too? Geez people, find your own identity!

I think it is awesome. Drivetrain looks like it has been that way for years. COOl

  30. It's all just theater anyways. But, if it gets more people involved in the hobby, to get the real barn finds, what the hell. A little salesmanship to promote preserving our history I can accept. Its the lies that are told to pass billls to crush and recycle our history that bother me more.
