So every year there are countless threads complaining about the winner, also goes for the Ridler!!! SO Ryan puts together the Jalopy Journal Award! All should be good right..NO you guys still complain! If this show was just for traditional cars it would fail BADLY! No Corporate Sponsors, Big Vendors, and Gate Draw! all these are needed so Axle can put together the Race Car Building, the Suede Palace, Bands, the Greaser Alley and we can have a Meet and Greet! Most that are complaining were not even at the Show! this show was great! The AMBR is about innovation and current style always has been! Look at the Ala Kart, you don't think people were pissed when it won!! it was waaaay over the top for the late 50's...the Niekamp roadster was cutting edge for 1950! Blackie's Roadster had a Chrome frame in 1955 and it won...See where this is going! We have our award let them have theirs! We need these High Tech Street Rods, they are for the common folk, non car people draw! they allow us a venue to have all these really neat things that Axle and Ryan have done! So stop Bitching and say thanks for giving us a GREAT WEEKEND OF CARS AND FRIENDS....but of course some people will never get it!!!
Well put. My glass is half full and when it's not, it's overflowing! Had a great time, saw some amazing cars. Thanks once again GNRS!
John, the 51 looks Fantastic!.Like it or not, guys must realize,a lot of thought and detail goes into an award winner. So congrats to all the winners.
Very true words John. Your car looked bitchen. I checked it out a few times. I'd also like to add I enjoyed chatting with you and hanging out and I look forward to more of the same this summer.
Well put John. Leave it to a member of the HAMB Old Fart's Club to cut to the chase and hit the nail on the head.
Hit the nail right on the head, just enjoy the show even if it wasn't something you would build yourself. It takes all car guys and a lot of their money to keep the vendors and shows going.
I spent all day at the show, in the morning with a friend that is a little bit of a car guy and the afternoon with a friend that is an old hot rodder. The were both impressed. Me, I'm just an old gear head, I like cars, and could have spent another day there. But, after the show, I had to spend a day working on my car.
Very well stated. I for one enjoyed the show and think it is the best one to date and I am old. I don't go to the show to see who wins. I always see something that excites me like Mort's 32.
Unless you show up and see what is offered for all then maybe you can have a say on the good, bad & ugly of this event. Again I totally agree with John & Ryan on all there comments.
WTF!? Oh well, yes you're right and very well said. My only regret this year was I couldn't go. I just don't look very long at the cars I don't like and don't give a crap about awards either. Even with that secret technique, there is still a shit load of great cars to see. So, I agree, it is a fantastic show and if you are a whiner, not much I can say other than don't go and waste that huge $20 wad of cash to get in the door.
I was blown away by the "feeling" of the drive-in part. The cars outside the buildings had a real Mooneyes/Primer Nats/Paso feel to it. Usually I go for a few hours and see what I want to see. This year it felt more like a "hangout" type show.
Well put. I had a great time meet nice people and no "rent a cop" got on us for bringing our own "beverages".
complaining about the winner of the AMBR is as big a part of the GNRS as overpriced beer and stale hot dogs.
I'm not bitch'n.... Never been to the show and I'm jealous of everyone that's been there. Some day..... Thanks to all that provide pics!!!!!!!
right on john.... lets just hope that greasers alley / suede palace doesn't get ruined by 10 AM drunks and geniuses doing burnouts. Shades of Viva anyone???
I hate the gold chain type cars as well, but your comments are quite cohesive, sensible, and valid, John........well put... CB
John, the rain kept me from getting the Olds ready. Jimmy and I cruised by your Chevy a few times. Great timing, huh?
Right on John, there was even a thread here bitching that the price of admission was too much at $20.
I my self like anything that is well thought out, quality workmanship, and well displayed. Our local cruise night averages around 700 cars all summer, it is always an enjoyable evening. Remember narrow mindedness has closed many a racetrack, and car show let us not be guilty of the same.
HAHA I saw that....I think people come here just to bitch, and have no clue about Hotrods or Customs!
