Go ahead and hate me... I just saw "Cars"

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by 4t64rd, Jun 8, 2006.

  1. I guess I "won" some advanced screening tickets when I signed up on one of the websites that had the trailer. They came in the mail the other day.

So I saw the movie tonight... It's great!

The audience clapped like crazy 3 times, and they didn't put all the best scenes in the trailers, like they usually do. It's better than the trailers make it out to be.

The scenery and animation is flawless, The rendered metalflake paint and rust was incredible. You have to see the movie just to watch the neon light reflections in the paint as the cars cruise down the main street at night. The only thing that didn't look absolutely like live action was a flag being raised in slow motion, and that lasted maybe 5 seconds. Lotsa cameos, Petty(Richard and His wife Lynda), Andretti, Waltrip, Dale Jr., Schumacher, Leno, etc..

Larry the cable guy gets all the semi-adult jokes (only 3 or 4, they would go over the heads of anybody under 12), and he does a really good job. The tractors are hilarious. And if you have even the slightest interest in early 50's Hudsons you gotta see it. The cars that really look good at the '63 Dart and A100 van. Some of the 50's cars are kinda over the top, but it is animated movie aimed at kids.

Oh and they gave out "Cars" windshield sun shields to everyone, so it was all a pretty good night for free.

I will probably see it again, if not I will be buying the DVD for the collection, I probably missed a lot looking for some of the HAMB cues, One car had pinner whites and Supremes, I thought that might be a nod to the HAMB.

    GO SEE IT!!!

  2. Thats cool,,,Im gonna go see it.
The last movie theater show I saw was "Open Water".
Dont ever rent the dvd or video of that movie,,,you'll thank me in the end.

We don't go to a lot of movies, but I might have to see this one. It will definitely be in the dvd collection either way.

    Thanks for the review!

Yes thats right no one go see it. We are all far to intelligent for a cartoon. How dare any of you think that you are allowed to watch a cartoon. And dont think about ever watching simpson's or family guy there for kids!
I think the Flint air has got you a rolled a bit to tight there guy.

  9. As a certified "Car Freak", I will have to see it. If it's entertaining , and makes ya' smile, good way to beat the blues. Hope there aint too many 57' Chevy's
Just got home from seeing :The Notorious Betty Page, ;) Besides the stunning cheesecake stuff, backround always stuffed with cool old cars.

Maybe I will take the better half and leave the Grand kids home so we can enjoy it. I was going to take them just to have an excuse to go see it myself. LOL. Gumpa

  12. I saw it last night too.....AWESOME!

    Top job Jive-Bomber and crew!

  13. Saw a "Cars" special on TV the other night with John Ratzenberger...there's one bit they showed where the race car is driving toward some mountains, and they are shaped like the Cadillac Ranch on Route 66...

awesome detail, I'm sure Jay (Jive Bomber) will fill us in on some more hot rod type stuff after the movie's been out a few days!!

Yeah, and they say playing with cars are for little boys too, but men still play with cars and little girls grow up to play with them too, and have a little heart, DUDE, you must admit, THERE WILL ALWAYS BE A LITTLE BIT OF "KID" IN ALL OF US.

I guess a 54 year old is too old to watch a cartoon?
I plan on going to see it and may even go watch "Over the Hedge".
I do not think you ever get too old for good cartoons. Someone's tag line on here used to read " You may have to grow old, but you never have to grow up". I try to live by that one every day.

Uptight much? Take a look in your garage lately? WE inspired that cartoon by bringing our cars to life. Spend your 8 bucks on alcohol. Some of you cats need to loosen up. Jeez. It's supposed to be fun. That's all, just fun.

My Grandson turns six today and this old grampa is taking 16 people to see it. We bought our tix in advance to make sure we get in without waiting and will kick it off with his party before the movie.

Too old??? remember....the family that plays together...stays together! We live by this motto and 3 generations of car crazy people have a ball together.

Opinions are like assholes, everybody has one...unfortuanely MIKEKILLSTHE DAY of Flint Michigan showed you his.

Yearh, didnt someone smart once say: "You dont stop playing because you get old, you get old because you stop playing!" ;)

  27. In the movie, one of the characters says "he has a Piston Cup" (The trophy given out for the "big race, kind of a play on Winston Cup), and Larry the Cable guy's character, who seemed to be not paying attention, spins around and says "He did what in a cup?"

That's the most risque joke in the movie.

There's little things that are just amazing to anyone no knows even a little about computer graphics.

like at the beginning of the movie, when the main character, does a burnout on one of the logos in the infield, and the different colors of painted grass leaves mixed with dirt shoot out behind the spinning tires.

    MikeKillstheDay... Grow up

I wish I worked for Pixar...

I love the HAMB, because there are so many diverse ways of making an ass of yourself here.

Jeff, Are you still pissed 'cuz you had to eat the soggy biscuit? OK then we'll do 2 out of 3. :)

I'm not jealous. I'm too busy figuring out how early I've got to get to the drive-in tonight to see this movie.

I wish it was warmer, the windshield fogs up with the top up.

I'm looking forward to seeing it since I have read the book to my son about 329,978,9823 times......everynight at bedtime when I'm there it's "Dad can we read Cars" I'm sure I will enjoy it as much as he will. Some people must have the same attitude as "Chick" lol

It is out today, and I already have tickets for the 5 pm show.
My kids are stoked, we've watched the trailer about a million times.
