Yep, I thought it was more '59-60 Buick until I saw the movie. :) There isn't anything straight from Mopar on Flo, but it sure looks like she was penned by Exner or his team...

There's a great companion book to the movie I thumbed through at Borders. "The Art of Making Cars" (or something like that). It has tons of development sketches and storyboard art that shows the development of the characters and the look and feel of the movie. I was going to get it but I got a B-day coming up and the relatives always complain that they can't find me anything to buy.

You're right about Flo, she's supposed to be a retired Motorama car, like a retired showgirl. Some more stuff I've read here and there. The Kings wife is voiced by Linda Petty, the Kings wife. At Flo's V8 Cafe, the neon spark plugs flash in the firing order of a flathead! The Ferrari is voiced by Michael Schumacher who did his parts in English, German and Italian. One of the race announcers is voiced by Darryl Waltrip. McQueens sponsors are voiced by those annoying guys from NPR, the Tappet Brothers. In the Spanish language version, The King is voiced by current F1 World Champ Fernando Alonso, In the German version its Nikki Lauda. On the back of Fillmore, the VW van, is a sticker that says "Save 2D Animation".

All this and "Grand Prix" comes out on DVD next month. So far it's lookin' like a good summer!

    Cheers,
    Kurt

    Cool information, thank you.

And what about the exhaust note that Doc Hudson put out When he was rippin' up the dirt track? He sounded SO good.

I enjoyed the movie quite a bit. I couldn't believe how detailed it was in every aspect. Did everyone recognize all the voices of the main characters? Who was the ole jeep? I think I got most of em except that one.

I just took my son (4 year old) to it. He made it about 1 hour before falling asleep. I will have to buy so he can see the rest of it. good movie.

  9. We went and seen it yesterday and loved it. We can't wait to buy it. The message about Rt.66 being bypassed & the towns dying was sad & powerful, especially if you've driven it. In the past Hollywood rarely gets everything right on a subject movie....."Cars" is what happens when real car guys make a movie with the passion of their interests & attention to detail. AAA+++:)

Stay all the way until the last credit rolls also.....

Paul Dooley. He's done many many parts on TV as well as the big screen. You might remember him as Molly Ringwald's dad in 16 Candles.

I don't know about all y'all, but i'm goin tractor tippin.:D I just about hyperventilated on that one. I'm thinking about a factory five daytona coupe with red paint, corvette swoop and wide tires and white walls. My wife and her mother took the 6,4 and 2 yr. old to see it early in the day. The inlaws watched the kids later and my wife and I saw the 7 o'clock. First time she and I have been on a movie date without kids in 7 years. Couldn't have been better, watching a "kid movie".:D

With so much really ugly stuff going on in the world ,I like to escape to the show house and see something to take my mind off it for a while .My hero is the saber tooth squirrel. things don't allways go your way , but you keep your eyes on the prize

Mark me up as another who will be buying the DVD the moment it comes out... Saw it with my wife at a late showing on aweekday, so it was a virtual private show. We were both laughing so hard for so long... So many good parts in it, and so many details to see.

As a computer animator I know how hard it is to get surface shaders and lighting right, and this stuff was the absolute best I've seen. And the attention to detail, like the condition of the trim on the Hudson as you got up close, was amazing. And it was so refreshing to see a car sliding on dirt and sound like it was sliding on dirt, not squaling on pavement...

Can't wait to see what the extras will be on the DVD.
