That is way nicer than my plastic welder. Mine is more like a soldering iron that the filler rod inserts into. If course I don’t do major repairs with it. Good stuff.

  3. Those work great. This machine has one with it
The cool factor for this one are the rods that are like 3/8 wide

  4. Santa brought the rest of the parts this weekend.
The dad asked if we could make a heat shield/something between the engine and body.
    So we made this.

    Kids birthday is tomorrow
Has no idea other than Santa owes him a go kart.

  15. Seriously neat, it sure is shiny. Did a student apply the paint or figure out the paint scheme/ pattern/livery? Makes me want to go back to school.

  16. Students did the prep work.
I stayed late and laid out the paint when we were trying for the Christmas deadline.

  17. Word is the kid had a great day yesterday.
And the “governor” we built did its job

Just curious, how old is the kid, and at what speed is it governed at?

  19. Kid turned 9
Very tall kid for a 9 year old.
The harbor freight “racing” engine the dad bought has a Mikuni style carb. This was the easiest or only way to control max speed.
The dad estimated it was governed around 15 mph with the bolt all the way out.
A sprocket change on the drive wheel can also be used to regulate speed.

Thanx for the response, 15 mph for a 9 year old with his **** an inch off the pavement should be fast enough to give him a thrill.
