Just picked up a bone stock 34 sedan. For an untouched original car I am pretty impressed. The only concern I have is that the old flatty seems to be buzzing hard at 50 mph. I see many aftermarket gear ratio options for 35-48 rears but nothing for the earlier stuff. Are lower numerical ratios available for the earlier rear ends? The car is original and I don't want to modify it too much... I do plan the standard improvements such as hydraulics but would like to keep the stock rear. What are my options?

The reproduction 3.54:1 ring and pinions are made for the 35-48 rear ends. The pinion can be modified to fit the 34 center section. Some suppliers offer them already modified with a pinion nut spacer. Either way, the drive shaft will have to me shortened and fitted with a 6 spline coupler.

Are the 3.54 ring and pinions sold as 32-34's actually modified 35-48's?... ie) Do the reproduction 32-34 require the coupler/driveshaft shortened or are they direct replacements?

That is exactly what I have planned. The tires are 40 years old so I am going to run some 16" wires or solids (not sure yet). Probably add a dropped axle also.
