Might be a stupid question but the Government keeps talking about cars going to all electric by 2050 what does that mean for vintage cars will we be grandfathered in or will we eventually have to convert to electric? Do we have any representation in Washington to advocate for us? I know 29 years is a long ways away but it's something to think about.

Of course, no one really knows. And, I'll be 101 and probably shouldn't be driving unless it's autonomous-but thenI won't remember where I wanted to go or why I wanted to go there.

There will be plenty of petrol to go around, for fuel, lube or plastic bags. No worries. New car wise, another story. You will drive what you need / can afford / want.

It's a little hard to think of an amped up golf cart as a hotrod... lol

Have you seen the specs on the the e-mustang suv? It will eat your lunch and go 300+ miles per charge. And they are just getting started. Sooner or later the insurance companies will have to slow them down.

Every publication I’ve read states all NEW vehicles (most my clients are in auto industry so I follow all auto news). I have yet to see anything about outlawing older vehicles with ICE.

We'll be able to drive our oldies some way or another. We'll also see some rad builds using newer electric stuff. I myself look forward to grabbing some dirt cheap wrecked tesla stuff and making a silent wicked awesome kustom, in addition to the old stuff I love.

Our power grid will never be able to handle(charging stations) the out put. So, no. It will never happen. A cold snap or a heat wave and the grid gets funky with power outages.

Our date is 2030, past that date no new vehicle can be sold that uses an ICE, hybrids are out by 2035.
Not much is beng said about driving existing old cars past that point, but you can bet that they will be taxed highly and we'll be made to feel like some sort of villan for driving them. I would not be surprised to see mileage restrictions imposed or similar.
If someone doesn't have any interest in cars and just wants to get A to B, then sure, why not, get an EV as a grovery getter, but I can't ever see them something that you'd ever drive for enjoyment.

I hnoestly see EVs and other changes (like mandatory speed limiters which are also coming) as a defining moment.in the culture of car enthusiasts - not just hot rods, but everything from a model T to todays supercars.
In future they really will just be white goods (even moreso than now).
I just don't see car enthusiasts existing - give in a generation or two and they won't understand why people even owned cars, spent money on them, modified them etc. All we can do is preserve the history.

Our current power grid won't handle 2050's electric load. But we have 29 years to work on it, don't we?

Remember when cars took over from horses? Like was mentioned, horses are still around....

And we can still legally drive a 100 year old car, with no extra taxes, nor being made to feel like a villain.

It's hard to predict what the future holds. There are little pockets of enthusiasm today for the strangest things from yesteryear. You never know.

Sit back and enjoy the ride.
