This is the point guys like us should thank the LS crowd. Lots of these good engines getting pulled so some guy can put a 350,000 mile 4.8 or 5.3 LS out of a junkyard in Grandpa's car, with a turbo off a freighter making 200 PSI and putting 3000 horsepower to the ground(I read this on the internet, I don't speak LS). It doesn't take to much to convince them that little old 180 horsepower takeout isn't worth LS money .

LS huh...They really can make more power than any other pushrod V8....I got an O/T compact Chevy truck project all set to drop in a 5.3 with as pulled from a 2002 truck..smooth and 315 hp..stick shift...The engine on scale fully loaded is 575 pounds despite the aluminum heads..LS iron blocks are very robust and heavy....
LS is gone and I picked up a used nicely built 350 with after market alloy heads, manifold and waterpump, 505 pounds on the scale..should make about the same power..Just plain painted valve covers and traditional belt drive...
I have driven lots of SBC engines, the feel of the engine is in the build not some magic displacement number...
