Yep, I understand. There's a machine shop here in my little town that makes drive gears that are about 8 feet in diameter for ocean liners and we're not within 600 miles of an ocean.
They aren't gonna scratch build me a crank for cheap though.

    Probably will not run.

    Huge intake pulse problem.

Needs to feed four cylinders, then nothing for 180 degrees, then try to fill four cylinders again.

If it starts at all, expect burnt pistons, probably the end cylinders.
F.I. MAP sensor will not bear the huge pressure variations very well either.

Might need a "Pony Motor" for a starter, LOTS of static compression to overcome just to turn it over.

Overall, the WORST engine mod idea I have ever read.

I think you would have to mount it to a concrete machine base to keep it from chasing you around the place. I fear it would create so much force all at once in one direction on the rotating ***embly that it would blow the side out of the block due to not being in balance "or" it would place so much force in one direction during the rotation that it would crush or gaul the main bearing. It would be cool as hell to see it in operation but I think it would be death throes we would be looking at.

  5. If Reed Cams is still in business, they will grind whatever firing order you want into a cam. That's where I got mine. As far as the intake pulse problem...run stack injection. That makes it 8 single cylinder engines anyway.

Years ago, a guy named Les Leggitt(?) (SCTA guys help me out here...) built a SBC v twin to run in some obscure cl*** at Bonneville. I think yours would take a REALLY big flywheel to get 4 cylinders up on compression at once.

Sounds like a hit and miss John Deer ,with more bang and clang. Why not take 1- 350 pull the heads and mount valve springs on top of the piston???Put heads back on and see if the springs help throw the pistons back down faster for mor RPM.I think youll get the same result,,kkkkkkkaaaaabbbboooommmmm with a clang at the end.Bring a fire hose............................YG (OR 911 ON STAND BY)

What if you drilled and tapped the heads in the combustion chambers and fed fuel to each cylinder separately through the intakes. Use the combustion tappings to vent the compression gases on the last 4 or six cylinders so the engine could get started, up, and running, you could ease in the cylinders manually, sort of like a north star caddy system but manual. Seems like a lot of work but most experiments are.

Why not just build a twin cam flat 8 or something like that???...

Why not just make a really, really big V-twin? That's what you're designing, so just get some big pistons from a cruiseliner or something, have your buddies make big-*** cylinders for it, and go from there.

I agree, plus it probably wont have enough power to rotate to the next firing position,, but,, after reading that profile, I know he will try it,
crazy,, but hey, people called Einstein crazy too i suppose..
might be like wd40 and find out all kinds of other stuff to invent,,,
    lookin forward to this outcome,

Hey, as long as it's an experiment, you should be able to experiment with just using one intake and one exhaust lobe per cylinder bank. Since all the intakes and all the exhaust in each bank are opening at the same time, all you need to do is conjure up a way for one lifter to open four intakes, and the other to open four exhausts. Surely the guys at the shop can mill some kind of funky rocker arm out of leftover unobtanium that will do the job.

    Yep, like this one.

A Merlin, cut down into a Vtwin.

  16. Wait...let me guess. Someone put it in a bike? Or on the front of a Morgan! How British would that be!!??

Might want to start with loooow compression heads the first time you do this.

I think she would just blow herself apart, if it didnt bust the crank first!

********,,,, :D I started young and I think that unless the laws of physics are altered to suit this "experts" needs, very bad things are going to happen. Good thing its virtually impossible for this to be built in the first place.

Imagine four cylinders on the Compression Stroke at the same time.

It would require a starter motor as special as the crank.

The cam may cost more than the crank. If you do it, it's going to be neat. Useful? Who knows what will really happen.

as a few have mentioned, it will need a hellacious starter, you will also need to make a cam for it and i dont think the head bolts are strong enough to keep the head on the block if all 4 cylinders fire at the same time. good luck though

Split the crank and make the frt 4 cylinders reverse rotating.
