Today or tomorrow Im meeting with a guy to look at his 46 ford super deluxe 4 door. Hes asking $1350 and Im thinking it might be a good deal. Has a flathead v8. Interior looks to have been redone in the 90s. It has wear and tear already. He says it has rust, but no specifics other than the rocker panels "need to be replaced". Im gonna see how bad the rust really is and make a decision then, but I want to know what my fellow HAMBers think about it. Im having a hard time getting past the 4 door thing. Maybe yall can convince me otherwise.

Heres the photos from tha ad.

'40s era Ford with most of the parts for substantially less than $2000? I would think that it would have to have a lot of hidden corrosion to not be worth that.

If you can get it to run, unless it already does your lookin at a $2500 car.

Yeah, what they said, plus, if it's decent, you're getting your money back on the inside of that car.

My bro tells me the running gear alone should be worth it.

Sounds like a great deal to me - 4-door cars. if for nothing else, make for great parts cars for the coupes, 2-drs, etc, as the 4-door cars are usually unmolested - the list goes on if you start thinking doors, door jambs, dash. Too much to list here - I'd go for it!!

Go for it....if all else fails part it out. Running gear, suspension & brake bits are worth the asking price alone.

I went a looked at it today. The body is JUNK! Flathead is locked up. However, everything under its skin is original. Banjo rear end, wishbone, solid axle, brakes, shocks even the factory steel wheels with beauty rings. And the spare in the trunk! Frame looks a little rusty, but solid. He told me he wanted to throw out the old **** and put modern susp, engine, etc. I wonder if he'd take an offer for everything but the body. Then he could throw the body on an s10 frame. And Id have a hell of lot to work with to build an rpu or something.

  11. That's too bad. I'll bet you could still buy it and drop a sbc drive train in it and tripple your money. Four doors may not be as desirable as a coupe or 2 door but some people love them and anything that runs down the road will find a buyer.

If the flathead runs it alone is worth about six hundred or more.

Cars are worth whatever you think they're worth... I saw a 46 ford business coupe roller without interior- engine- transmisson- go for $3200. A senior gent bought it and seemed happy as a clam-More doors don't do it for me- but what do I know!
