Now if is a HAMBer's car i dont mean to offend anyone BUT.....i just got to reading the article and realized the 6 holleys and blower are all FAKE??? why would someone go to those lengths to make something appear as something else..that truck would have looked fine with just an intake and a regular carb. once again i dont mean to offend anyone but just wondering if i am the only one who thinks that is odd
If that setup was real that truck would be badass. I mean really, if you had a truck that cool, why would you put some fake blower on it anyways?
thats what got me..i think it is a really good lookin truck no need to go to those lenghts. i really dig those huge ww slicks
i was a little disapointed about that fact but that intake setup sure does have some attitude that a single 2 or 4 barrel just can't pull off. with the cost of things and the driveabiity factor i can see whay he went that route. personaly i would have never told anyone it was fake and gone to great lengths to make it appear functional. everyone tells me to just run the center two carbs on my nailhead when i get it in the model A, but i say "HELL NO". "if it's got 6, then 6 will work". ofcourse if i was a rich man i'd convert it to the sneaky little EFI setups they got now. all the looks AND the driveability too.... now what was the question????
The fact that the blower and carbs are fake doesn't bother me. The truck wouldn't have the same impact without it. It's patterned after a 60s show car, hell most of them didn't even run. I saw it in person at KC GOODGUYS, It looks good! Dean
DAMN good point FAT****. i actually feel alot better about it thinking of it that way. at least it RUNS!
I think if we're talking about FAKE I think the artical about the patina in R&C took the take.. I can understand the goldchainer mags going on about that*****, but now R&C? Been spending my money on Custom Rodder more often...
I went back and re-read the article and must have missed that he only spent $7000 on it... thats actually a pretty nice truck for 7g's.
I think the truck is pretty cool. It looks like the axle has a bunch of road rash. Wich most cars in magazines SHOULD have. It shows that they are driven. If this is the case, and it IS driven, i think that fact and the fact it only cost 7000 dollars makes up for the fake blower and carbs. Nick

[/ QUOTE ] exactly why I dig that truck! 7grand and lookie at all the money this dude spent on chrome.. without the shiney stuff he's probly more in the 3 grand range.. which makes the truck very cool.. in my eye. maybe this guys saying hey not all the ratrods are flatblack with red wheels.. "patina is for posers." sawzall

Fake blower & carbs or not this is a cool truck. I would suggest that is it like a woman with fake*****s....I enjoy looking at them too. But that doesn't mean I get to take either one of them for at trip around the block !!!
Its an eye candy thing. That definitely has the look. Probably way more driveable and it looks like he drives it. Nice piece for not much money. Guy is a wizard.
I had seen pictures, but I didn't know much about the truck until I read R&C. It's definately one of my favorites rides from this last year, 60's show car all the way. It sounds like he did a lot of the work himself and he must have to get it done for that amount of money. Here's a couple shots of it. I love it.
I know the truck well. I have known the builder since his hot rod was a bikecycle. The truck was built in a small town home garage and owner is the only one involved with building it less the seat. As far as the phoney blower and carbs. All the carbs have functonal linkage and appear to work, Hand built airbox over stock intake is nicely done and stock carb linkage is well hidden. For a man that couldnt spell bodyman a few years ago I for one am very proud of his tallents and what he acomplished with this onece***** box sedan, on the budget of a single father of two and less money than about any rod to hit a mag. I for one see the truck as real challenge to other real builders on a low budget. Cal
Check out the "T" in the background of Beatniks first picture I'll take the truck, and when I'm tired of polishing all that chrome, and fancy paint, I'd drive that Roadster! Who's is that? Dean
I went back and looked at it again last night. Good looking ride. I don't agree with the fake*****, but to each there own. But overall nice work...
Carkiller - why did he do it? I mean it costs a fortune just for all the carbs and blower and linkage, why not hook them up. Was there any reason for it? The truck is cool, for the 60's show style..
I like it too. It just wouldn't have the same look with out the set up that is on it. I was waiting for some one to post about it. It looks cool and it's drivable.
[ QUOTE ] Carkiller - why did he do it? I mean it costs a fortune just for all the carbs and blower and linkage, why not hook them up. Was there any reason for it? The truck is cool, for the 60's show style.. [/ QUOTE ] Several reasons maybe. Everyone invents their own list of 'problems" to solve in their Custom Rod's build up. (Yes, In my way of thinking, this is what a custom rod is, because it is a rod and it is also a custom wiith all that 60's style bodywork.) His was to copy the 60's show rod tradition of the fake blower that was prevalent at the time. plus he probably likes the "ain't broke didn't try to fix it" driving reliability of the stock adequate power for the street hemi. I usta build ships in Pinch scotch bottles. Had to quit when I quit frinking because I ran out of empty bottles...
I liked the truck, not too sure about the big white fuel (?) hoses up the front of the engine, I noticed that the company doing the "Garlits" fake injection etc is a Kiwi company, I think they did it way back in the 70's as I recall seeing fake set ups round when I was a young un...
The fake blower/carb setup is simple. The motor is a junk yard piece that he fired up. It ran. The carbs were bought from me. Rather cheap. The blower came along CHEAP. Up to that point the plan was three duece or two fours. Not haveing the cash to buy either, Ahah fake blower/94s. Dont rebuild what runs. I look at it this way. You have two large tires on the back of your rod, Is it a possi? Then why two big tires if its only gonna spin one? Or why the big tires if it wont spin one? Show, dependable, and functional. Not found on many rods. Cal
I met the owner of the p/u at the goodguys heartland nationals last year, hes a real cool guy to talk to and had a good attitude about the hobby, I dont know what all the b.s. is about over the fake blower! i think its fine, some people dont have the money to afford a real one so fake blower it is, my dad had a t-bucket in the 70's that had a fake blower, it sure looked real, when i started to build my t-bucket we began making a fake blower set up for that also, never finishe the set-up but still got it and plan to put it on something sometime, plus making fun of fake blowers is just like making fun of fibre-glass cars RIGHT? I mean thats just another way of getting something that looks like the real thing?????? So***** that*****! Its an affordable way to make it look the way you want.TITUS
[ QUOTE ] Carkiller - why did he do it? I mean it costs a fortune just for all the carbs and blower and linkage, why not hook them up. Was there any reason for it? The truck is cool, for the 60's show style.. [/ QUOTE ] prolly cause it would'nt be near as driveable or reliable with all that hooked up.
