Here's a lesson for all of us optimists out there. Not everybody you deal with on the Internet is as honest as you'd like to think they are! First of all, I'm pretty damn sure this doofus is not a Hamber Recently I got a response to an inquiry I made on the HAMB regarding parts for a Car I was working on. Didn't hold out much hope, 'cause they're kind hard to find. Low and behold, I get a response!! not only has the dude got the parts, they're NOS!! Wahoo!! How much? I say. The price was very reasonable. I figure if he's got some parts, maybe he's got more?? Low and behold!! Almost everything I was looking for. Again, the price was very reasonable. Here's the upside Guy's got the parts and, wonder of wonders, his daughter works for Fedex. He'll have her ship them as soon as he gets the $$ Here's where it gets hinky: 1. Send the money via Moneygram to Walmart I'm bedridden, my Daughter will pick it up, then she'll ship, and send me a tracking number. OK says I, I'll need a phone number. Why? says he. Because I'll need it to send the Money. Doctor says I'm not supposed to talk on the phone, but here's the number. Did I call it? No, cause good guy that I am, I know he can't talk on the phone! After the 3 "Have you sent the $$" emails, off goes the money, and, here's the part I don't get.....He then emails me, says the parts have been sent, WITHOUT a tracking #!! Long story short, If you are going to do business with people you connect with on the HAMB, read carefully what HAMB says about doing business! and here's a few handy tips! 1. If it sounds too good to be true, it probably is. 2. Check out the people you are doing business with . There are a bunch of ways, including maybe getting a fellow Hamber to follow up. They're everywhere. 3. Don't send money to Walmart (or any other loosely secure Money drop without a real good reason. 4. Don't call me a dumb***! I already Know That! Having said all of that, this is the first time Ive been burned in over 500 transactions Watch it!
that ****s. hope you didn't loose too much. i'm the same way. i've been lucky so far, never got burned yet.
****s that you got hosed but... Dr. says I'm not supposed to talk on the phone??? Come on man, that shoulda been your first clue!
Send money to Walmart?!?!......WTF.....Sounds like a RED FLAG to me. Sure hate to see good people get burnt. Damn sorry it happened to you and thanks for giving us all a lesson....
With the amount of old timers starting to use the internet I find these things happening more and more. I know of plenty of smart fellas that have been had. Don't feel too bad. Also, don't forget, young people are smarter than you might think.
With ALL the threads warning people to NOT use wire transfers, you STILL did it any way? I'm sorry, but I have no sympathy for a fool or his money.
Common sense goes along way, reading your post threw up red flags early.Hope you did'nt lose too much.
i was burned on a $20.00 part once, easy lesson learned. sorry you were ****ered, too bad some people these days are fawks.
Wow, sorry you got burned. Quite a coincidence. I just had an experience yesterday very similar, but it wasn't about car parts. I inquired about a house for rent that was on CL. Well the party gets back to me and says he is a missionary in north Africa. Says his church told him to rent the house for a reasonable fee while he is doing his missionary work. Well I ask him if he has any references here that I could contact to verify his story. He writes back very indignant that I should have the audacity to question a man of the cloth I ask again for references and he gets back to me again to tell me the only one that he can get a reference from is in Mexico doing missionary work and that I would just have to trust him concerning the deposit. Told him adios and to have a nice mission
Just because you've seen the threads warning people doesn't mean he has, and he's not asking for your sympathy, he's trying to help others from making the same mistake.
hope that you have contacted Ryan about this. I have had a payment made to me via a Walmart Moneygram with no problems.
That's pretty common. Don't fall for the "online applications" where they require a $** background check fee either.
That's why I prefer to deal with HAMBers that are well-known on here. I don't buy from anyone else but the well-known members on here or the Alliance members. Sorry about that deal.
i have scored more hard to find parts from old timers who lurk on the hamb and ford barn, than from actual members,,,(because i list my email adress in my wanted ads)..they usually dont even have their own email adress (usually a womans name),,so far i have been very lucky and trusting and have done good,,i always ask for actual pics of whatever it is and some times it might take a few days or week,,but u gotta be a good judge of character as well.....
